We are excited to offer a number of different learning opportunities in a variety of art forms this season.  Located right in the heart of downtown Carpinteria, the Arts Center has something for everyone to enjoy, whether you like painting or working with polymer clay, fusing glass or learning to play a new instrument.  There are workshops for children and adults.

Introduction to West African Drumming: 
Ages 8 through Adult
Sunday, January 14, 3:00-4:00PM
 
  Presenter: John Knecht
Join the music instructor from Cate School, for African drumming in our courtyard. John has traveled to Guinea, Mali and Senegal to study the art of drumming, dance and song. Come enjoy the excitement and rhythm of this African tradition!

Learn and develop drawing skills as a foundation towards painting or as a refresher workshop. Includes demonstration and practice on use of line, value, composition and understanding perspective. We will explore various drawing mediums including pen & ink. Bring your own sketchbook to class.

Learn to allow your "Chi" to flow with your bamboo brush strokes as you create elegant Asian subjects and Chinese calligraphy. The workshop will include demonstrations, lecture, handouts, and individual attention. No previous experience necessary. Materials provided.

Getting to Know Polymer Clay

Get a taste of what this astonishing modern material can do! Also known as Fimo or Sculpey, it can be carved, rolled, blended, stretched, sculpted, painted, mixed with other materials and baked in a home oven. Learn about techniques and tools to produce everything from miniatures to jewelry. All materials provided.

There is always something fun to do at the Arts Center after school! Students will develop age-appropriate art skills and learn new techniques in a variety of media including pencil, crayon, marker, charcoal, pastels, paint, clay, collage, printmaking, India ink and more! Home School Art Course

Beginning Ukulele Playing


6  Wednesdays: January 24-February 28, 4:30-5:30PM, for Adults

Learn simple chords and strumming techniques for sing-alongs as you begin to master this fun instrument. Bring your own ukulele to the first session or borrow one from the presenter.

Winter Whimsical Wednesday 
Art Tours and Excursions
Art related events and tours typically on the first Wednesday of every month. We visit local galleries and museums, as well as Los Angeles art institutions.   All of our tours have a maximum number of participants.  To reserve a place on one of these excursions, register at  CarpinteriaArtsCenter.org or stop by the gallery Thursday through Monday, 10 to 4.  There is a minimal registration fee for local tours, payable to the Carpinteria Arts Center before the registration deadline for each event.
