Center for Economic Education & Entrepreneurship
September 2019 newsletter

Working in an academic setting, we're often asked come September how we've enjoyed our quiet time off. Because caps and gowns are packed away and school buses are off the road, many seem under the misconception that the weeks between school terms are spent with our feet up and our toes in the sand.

In fact, we know and appreciate how teachers spend their summers. Many immerse themselves in preparation for the coming year-- devising lesson plans, creating curriculum from scratch, engaging in coursework and professional development when topics and times better fit interests and schedules, and then taking time to digest and plan for how they will use all that they've learned.

We get it because we share in that work. This past summer, we celebrated graduation with our most recent MAEEE alumni, welcomed the Class of 2021 to their first year of study, hosted Delaware's very first K -12 Economic Education Conference, conducted a week-long Keys to Financial Success training with our Fed partners in Philadelphia, and instructed elementary teachers on how they could lead students in establishing working classroom mini-societies.

We are committed to equipping teachers with the training and resources needed so that they may, in turn, offer a quality economic and personal finance education to their students, providing them with the critical knowledge and tools vital to the life ahead. Inspired by our University's strategic path forward, we are dedicated to producing educational offerings that are both practical and ambitious, always challenging ourselves to find better ways to help the educational community we serve. We're continually refining experiential learning programs, hosting events that assist students in self-discovery and crafting lessons that help them understand our current economic and political climate.

So, although we know that many have never left school too far behind this summer, we offer all a warm welcome back and we look forward to the work ahead. Together, with the continued and valued help of our partners, we plan to make a positive and meaningful impact on the coming school year.
