Sophomore Interviews:
As part of our Sophomore Advisory Curriculum, students take part in a short (5 minute) mock interview. We are hoping to expand our community involvement to enhance the real-world feel of these interviews. Here is an overview: Mock Interview Procedure These interviews will be taking place from 9:30 am - 11:00 am on the following dates: April 10, April 18, and April 24. If you are interested in volunteering, please indicate the dates you are available here: Mock Interview Volunteer Sign Up
Reality Day 2023:
This year, all 11th- and 12th-grade students will participate in this engaging and interactive financial literacy simulation to learn the “realities” of life after high school or college. Students complete a career cluster survey and identify a potential occupational area they may be interested in pursuing in their future. Local businesses provide real-life product, service, and cost information and staff the reality day “stations” (housing, groceries, debit/savings accounts, etc.).
As a result of Reality Day, students:
Learn why financial planning skills, goal setting, and decision-making are so important to their futures.
Learn the relevance of what has been taught in school, and the impact financial literacy has on their lives.
Examine their attitudes and understanding about career choices, earning potential, job satisfaction, and the role of those concepts in attaining a quality of life.
Interact with DeForest area business people, community members, teachers, support staff, and administrators.
Work with other students, school staff, and the business community in an action-oriented setting that has the power to change student perceptions about their future.
Many of you have participated in this incredible event before.
We invite you back and invite the rest of you to consider joining us Wednesday, April 19th from 8:00 am-1:00 pm at DeForest Area High School.

The DeForest Area School District (DASD) continues to place a high priority on the safety of our students and staff. This is an area of ongoing and continuous improvement at the building and district levels in close partnership with our local law enforcement agencies, fire department, and EMS. We have recently added another tool to our safety and emergency preparedness.
In partnership with the Wisconsin Department of Justice’s (DOJ) Office of School Safety (OSS), DASD is now connected with the SPEAK UP, SPEAK OUT Resource Center (SUSO). SUSO is a comprehensive place to turn to with concerns regarding school safety.
Students, parents, guardians, school staff, and community members can submit a school safety concern directly from the DASD website, by visiting speakup.widoj.gov or by calling 1-800-MY-SUSO-1. Resource Center staff work around-the-clock to respond to submitted reports and to coordinate a response locally by communicating directly with school administrators, law enforcement, and related student services and school district staff.
As part of our multi-step process in rolling SUSO out to our students, staff, families, and community we will be having a contest for high school students to create a video message highlighting the program and its role in keeping one another and our schools safe.
DASD is looking for business/community partners who would be willing to provide funds as cash prizes to the first ($100), second ($75), and third ($50) place video teams. If interested in sponsoring the video contest, please email Kathy Williams, kwilliams@deforestschools.org. Thank you!

Buy Local, Buy Wisconsin Grants
|
Launched in 2008, the Buy Local, Buy Wisconsin (BLBW) competitive grant program is designed to strengthen Wisconsin’s agricultural and food industries by working to reduce the marketing, distribution, and processing hurdles that impede the expansion of sales of Wisconsin’s food products to local purchasers.
Managed by DATCP, the grants can help farms and business more efficiently process, market and distribute food in local markets including stores, schools and institutions. Keeping food dollars in Wisconsin communities supports local businesses, improves farmincomes, and creates jobs.
