This Sunday, February 17:
Worship, 10 am in the Sanctuary
Where does the history behind our church beliefs and attitudes come from? How can we move past our previous thoughts to action in our modern society? In worship this week, our guest preachers Janis & Joel Montgomery will answer these questions in their sermon titled, "Actions Matter." The scripture texts are James 1:17–27 and Mark 7:1–8, 14–15, 21–23 . Our Lay Worship leader is Orene Anthony.
Welcome Janis & Joel Montgomery to worship today. They’re both 2013 graduate of Pittsburgh Theological Seminary. Rev. Joel Montgomery is the currently pastor at First Presbyterian Church of Vandalia, MO. He moderates the Camp and Outdoor Ministries committee for the Missouri-Union Presbytery. Janis is currently the Stated Supply Pastor at Curryville Presbyterian Church. They have four children: Caleb (7), Ceilidh (4), Holly and Highland (2).
Children preschool – Fifth grade, are invited to a time for joyful noise and play in the Creche, now located on the third floor in Beckwith Hall. Youth, Sixth-twelfth grade are invited to stay in the service and participate by responding to this week’s Wonder Sheet.
Music Notes
We continue our series of introits written by 16th and 17th century composers of English cathedral music with a short anthem by Thomas Tallis. Along with his colleague William Byrd, Tallis was among the first composers granted permission to print and publish music in Elizabethan times. American composer Gwyneth Walker based her anthem on the traditional hymn, "The King of Love My Shepherd Is," with music and lyrics she adapted herself. Interspersed with the preexisting material are short phrases of text from the Saint Patrick Breastplate: “God before me. God beside me. God behind me. God above me.” We return to American composer Ned Rorem this week for our offertory.
The Interim Pastor Search Committee is seeking your input!
The Interim Pastor Search Committee, appointed by Session, is beginning its work. The Interim Pastor will serve our congregation during the transition period until we call our next pastor. This Committee will recommend a candidate to Session who, in concert with the Presbytery of the Western Reserve (PWR), will have final approval. The PWR Committee on Ministry (COM) assists in this process; we welcome Laurie Moormann, COM’s representative, who is working with us.

We are seeking your input. We are asking members of the Covenant community to share the qualities or attributes you believe would be most beneficial in an Interim Pastor during this period of transition. Please click here to share your thoughts:  https://goo.gl/forms/2jXrtIMJPgv3yZ8w2 . You will also have an opportunity to submit your thoughts this Sunday.

We encourage you to talk with any member of the Committee should you have questions about this process or have a suggestion for an Interim Pastor. You may also email questions or suggestions to InterimSearch@CovenantWeb.org . We ask for your prayers as we begin our work.
