This Sunday, February 24:
Worship, 10 am in the Sanctuary
What is our why? What are the core things that bring us into relationship with God? What is the heart of this community? In the midst of life, the Spirit of Jesus’ wisdom is ever present, guiding us into our “why” and into relationship with God and God’s Dream in this time and place. In worship this week, Kevin J. Lowry will explore these questions in his sermon titled, "The Why"The scripture texts are Jeremiah 17:5-10 and Luke 24:13-16 & 28-32 . Our Lay Worship leader is Liisa Dollinger .
Children preschool – Fifth grade, are invited to a time for joyful noise and play in the Creche, now located on the third floor in Beckwith Hall. Youth, Sixth-twelfth grade are invited to stay in the service and participate by responding to this week’s Wonder Sheet.
Music Notes
We conclude our series of English cathedral introits this week with Byrd’s 17 th century setting of the “upper room” discourse. Jesus was preparing the disciples for life without his physical presence. As we prepare for worship, let us seek comfort in knowing that the spirit of Christ is with us. The anthem is a contemporary setting of an old Quaker hymn tune. References to the persecution of Quaker Friends speak to their refusal to worship the King of England or to bear arms: those with faith will prevail. Offertory soloist Merav Eldan sings in the role of an angel who has come to comfort and strengthen Elijah for his journey to Mount Horeb, where he will encounter God.
