This Sunday, February 24:
Worship, 10 am in the Sanctuary
The sermon will focus on how the story of the transfiguration may help us deal with changes and altered perceptions .In worship this week, June Begany will explain this narrative in her sermon titled, "What Makes a difference?". The scripture texts are Jeremiah 1: 4- 10 and Luke 9:28 – 36 . Our Lay Worship leader is Mary Anne Bromelmeier.
We welcome June Begany to worship this Sunday. Rev. June Begany has served various pastorates in Cleveland, Ohio, including 24 years as Associate Pastor at Old Stone Church and as interim pastor at Pioneer Church in Solon and Trinity Presbyterian in Ashtabula. Prior to seminary she taught history in the Cleveland schools and served on the staff of Church of the Covenant. She completed her certification in Older Adult Ministry. She serves as secretary to the POAMN (Presbyterian Older Adult Ministry Network) Board. and with the local Presbyterian Women’s group as resource for spirituality. June was married at the Covenant and ordained to Ministry of Word and Sacrament in Covenant's sanctuary. She has been married for 38 years to her husband Paul.
Children preschool – Fifth grade, are invited to a time for joyful noise and play in the Creche, now located on the third floor in Beckwith Hall. Youth, Sixth-twelfth grade are invited to stay in the service and participate by responding to this week’s Wonder Sheet.
Music Notes
We welcome choir soloist Jelani Watkins as guest choir director this Sunday. Our service opens with one of Jelani’s compositions in which the choir will sing one final “alleluia” before the season of Lent begins this week. The spiritual journey through Lent is frequently illustrated as a walk with Jesus in music written for this period in the liturgical year. We get a sense of the “hush” that comes with self-reflection of our own faith in the offertory by African-American composer Moses Hogan. We build on a sense of partaking at a communal table this week with congregational responses by British composer John Merbecke.
