Music Notes
We gather as a faith community this week to ordain and install siblings in Christ as servant leaders for our church. The Chancel Choir opens our service with the text Liebster Jesu wir sind hier, Dich und dein Wort anzuhören, “Blessed Jesus, we are here to listen to you and your word,” set by Chaplain Tobias Clausnitzer in the 17 th century. As a chaplain, Clausnitzer had occasion to preach in what would become one of J.S. Bach’s churches, the St. Thomaskirche in Leipzig. The hymn harmonization of our introit was created by Bach for use in one of his many church cantatas. Eastertide celebrations continue with an anthem based on a 12 th century melody that is one of the oldest liturgical songs in German. A long history of textual expansion and harmonic adaptations led to the 1979 arrangement sung by the choir today. Following the ordination and installation litany, the choir offers a musical reminder that we are all children of Christ, and that Jesus has love for all time.

In Our Community
Opportunity to join Tamir’s mother Samaria Rice
and sign an online petition
On November 22, 2014 Tamir Rice was shot and killed by Cleveland police officer Timothy Loehman. Officer Loehman subsequently was fired for withholding information on the application for his job. He was previously found unfit to serve by the Independence Police and did not disclose that information along with his failure to pass the test for the Maple Heights force. The firing was upheld by a city arbitrator. Now the Cleveland Police Patrolmen’s Association (CPPA) has filed an appeal in hopes of gaining his job back.

The Ministry of Service is inviting you to join Tamir’s mother Samaria Rice and sign one of these online petitions to ask that this appeal be dropped:
