LARGO'S NEW ASSISTANT CITY MANAGER
Meet Margaret "Maggie" Paluch, the successful candidate for Largo's Assistant City Manager. Ms. Paluch was the unanimous selection after a nation-wide search and interview process that included all members of the Executive Leadership Team (ELT). Ms. Paluch received her MPA from Suffolk University and was most recently the city manager for Alamogordo, New Mexico. Alamogordo has a population of approximately 31,00. She served three years as city manager and totals 15 years of local government experience. Ms. Paluch was the right fit for our organization and community, due to her demonstrated commitment to promoting our mission, vision and values and support initiatives aimed at achieving strategic goals. Ms. Paluch will be an asset to the entire team during the culture shift to a high-performance organization. Ms. Paluch will attend the City Commission meeting on May 21, at which time City Commission will vote on her appointment. She is expected to begin employment on June 26.

SENATOR BRANDES TO HOST OFFICE HOURS AT CITY HALL
Senator Jeff Brandes will host mobile office hours at Largo City Hall on May 20 from 10am-12pm. These office hours offer constituents who do not live close to Senator Brandes’ office in St. Petersburg a more convenient way to meet their Senator and receive any assistance that may be needed prior to the start of the 2019 State Legislative Session.

TEAM LARGO IS ENGAGED
Team members from across department lines came together to talk about their organization and current work culture. Participants were presented a sneak peek of employee survey results and provided valuable information about recognition and engagement programs in order to help city leaders plan for the future. From tools and technology to brainstorming flexible work schedules, this workshop hosted great discussions and generated new ideas to make Largo an even better place to work, naturally!

CONGRATULATIONS ARE IN ORDER
Largo Police Department would like to congratulate several team members for recently earning their degrees! Sergeant Michael Blickensdorf earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Public Safety Administration from St. Petersburg College. Both Sergeant Ann Starling and Sergeant Benn Lofton have earned their Masters Degrees in Criminal Justice Administration from the University of South Florida. The entire Largo Police Department is very proud of your accomplishments and the superior service you provide to the Largo community.

POLICE DEPARTMENT SPEEDING INFORMATION
City Commission recently requested feedback from the Largo Police Department regarding the proposed reduced speed limit. Largo Police Department reports the data below representing crash statics from 2016-2018. Based on current data, enforcement efforts will be focused on the major roadways where the significant number of crashes are occurring and all of the fatalities are occurring.

PROJECT UPDATES
TROTTER ROAD UPDATE
David Nelson Construction has advised Engineering Services that the intersection at Dryer Avenue and Trotter Road remains closed until Wednesday, May 22, 2019 as construction crews work to complete the asphalt paving. The intersection will re-open Wednesday, May 22, at close of business pending any unforeseen delays. The Trotter Road Reconstruction Project remains on schedule for completion in July 2019. Detour signs are present.

NEW THREE WAY STOP ON TROTTER ROAD
As part of the community input received for the Trotter Road construction project, a new three way stop will be installed during the week of May 20-24, 2019 at the intersection of Trotter Road and 8th Avenue SW. This will replace the one-way stop currently in place.

INTERSECTION CLOSURE ON INDIAN ROCKS/WILCOX ROAD
In an ongoing effort to eliminate sanitary sewer over flows in the City, the Engineering Department's contractor will be replacing the sanitary sewer line along the grass on the west side of Indian Rocks Road from Wilcox Road to Jeff Road and along a portion of Jeff Road as well. Pipe replacement crossing Indian Rocks Road will result in a 17 day closure of the Indian Rocks/Wilcox Road intersection beginning May 28th. Smaller duration closures will occur at the entrance to Siesta Road, Kensington Oak Place and Jeff Road.

This project will begin May 28, 2019 and is expected to last 4-5 weeks. Letters will be mailed to residents in the region notifying them of the road closure along with the following Indian Rocks Road north/south detour information:
  • Dryer Avenue to Gladys Street
  • Gladys Street to Vonn Road
  • Vonn Road to Walsingham Road
  • The truck detour route is as follows:
  • 8th Avenue SW to Ridge Road
  • Ridge Road to Ulmerton Road

During the intersection closure, the County will begin a project to replace the stormwater pipe in the Indian Rocks Road and Wilcox Road intersection. The project will continue replacing sidewalk along the east side of Indian Rocks Road northward to 8th Avenue SW.

MEMORIAL DAY CEREMONY
Join the City of Largo in honoring those who have lost their lives while fighting for our country. The 2019 Memorial Day ceremony will be held on May 27 at 7pm, in Largo Central Park's Military Court of Honor. This evening will include a color guard presentation, a wreath presentation in remembrance of our fallen soldiers and our Keynote Speaker, Rev. Fr. Robert “Bob” Swick.
