THIS WEEK IN LARGO JUNE 21, 2019
THANK YOU LARGO EMPLOYEES!
Recently, Administration sent a little "Thank You" to team members at off-site facilities to show gratitude for what each individual does to help make Largo the Community of Choice in Tampa Bay. From keeping our streets and facilities beautiful to creating sage neighborhoods, we are truly providing superior services that inspire community pride. Following up we would love to know your thoughts on these efforts to continue to improve team engagement, so please share your feedback.

It was great to reach out to individuals that may not always get a chance to come of City Hall for the Team Picnic and look forward to hosting the whole team together again for the Fall City Picnic!

TROTTER ROAD OPEN
Trotter Road has reopened for vehicle traffic. It is still considered a construction zone so the speed limit is 15 mph until final construction is complete. The new stop signs at the intersection of Trotter Road and 8th Avenue SW are permanent and motorists are urged to come to a full stop. The Largo Police Department will be shifting from issuing warnings to actual ticketed citations in the near future.

AMERICA'S TOP DOG
A few months ago, the casting director with "Big Fish Entertainment" contacted Chief Undestad about an idea for a new show they are working on called "America's Top Dog". They have produced many shows on A&E to include "Bomb Squad Afghanistan". She asked if Largo PD would be interested in participating and Chief Undestad said yes! Participants have an opportunity to win a cash prize for their agency and that is what appealed to the Chief. Through a long and intense process our very own Officer Pat Newbill and K9 Murphy have been selected as one of the participants out of over 700 candidates throughout the US! Pat and Murphy will be leaving for LA at the end of the month for the five day process. Pat & Murphy have been training hard and preparing for the competition. This is an amazing accomplishment for them to be selected. We are very proud of them and ask that you join us in wishing the team very best!!!

Good luck Pat & Murphy! We are cheering for you!

USF COMMUNITY SUSTAINABILITY PARTNERSHIP PROGRAM
The City of Largo is proud to have served as the 2018-2019 partner for the USF Community Sustainability Partnership Program (CSPP) in our efforts to help ensure a positive, sustainable future for our residents, businesses and visitors. The program has allowed both the City and USF to strengthen our shared vision, increase the livability of our community and improve the quality of our local environment. The three projects resulting from the CSPP have provided valuable insight to the City and are summarized below. For questions about the partnership or future opportunities to work with USF please contact Sustainability@Largo.com.

Community Survey
The community survey project involved a class of University of South Florida (USF) students designing a survey instrument to gauge community values. The students developed the questions from input of City of Largo staff, residents, and USF faculty. USF faculty and staff have begun to field the survey for data collection after the end of the semester and intend to provide a report summarizing the results of the survey.

Private Laterals
Based on the students' recommendations, Environmental Services is selecting one or two privately owned collection and transmission systems (POCTS) for flow metering. The meters will be purchased and installed to investigate inflow & infiltration (I&I) coming from the POCTS. This data and the data collected from ongoing flow monitoring in the public system could be used to derive a threshold which defines what excessive I&I is within the City of Largo. The ultimate goal is to prevent Sanitary Sewer Overflows (SSOs) and reduce the cost of treatment at the Wastewater Reclamation Facility.

Open Data
USF students from the course The Design of Industrial Information Systems worked to develop technology suggestions for the City to implement in order to support a more responsive and adaptive community. Students also examined how staff collects, shares and distribute data in order to provide policy suggestions and ideas on operational efficiencies that would create a more automated information system. Staff has reviewed student suggestions and will incorporate them as necessary.
