The results are in for the first month of the Sustainability Team's Kill-A-Watt Challenge. Overall, the challenge saved approximately $3,000 during the month of July and reduced our electricity use by 30,000kwh. That's the equivalent of 21 metric tons of carbon dioxide and could power 2.5 Largo homes for a whole year!

We want to say a big congratulations to our very own Highland preschool led by Danielle Garrigan and Jenna Roberts, who won a $25 gift card and bragging rights for signing the Kill-A-Watt Energy Pledge, and City Hall for ditching the most watts in July. It was a close call, however, with Parks Administration, the Community Center and McGough Nature Park coming in a near equal tie for second place. Since the same building can't win twice, keep up the hard work and next month's trophy may be yours! If you have already signed up for the Energy Pledge you will be in next month's drawing and don't forget to encourage your teammates to Kill-a-Watt!

The community is invited to learn more about these new improvements at an Open House hosted by the City on August 21, 6 p.m. at The Bridge Dance Complex, 100 1st Ave SW in Largo.
