Measure V Update Shared with Concord Community
Also in your mailbox this month is the City's inaugural update on Measure V.

Thanks to Concord voters, the City of Concord was able to secure much-needed funding to improve our roadways and infrastructure, address homelessness, invest in public safety technology, and continue to provide essential services.
This strategic investment of resources has enabled us to keep “Moving Concord Forward.”

This update is intended to give our residents and businesses an inside look at how the funds are being invested for the benefit of the Concord community.

ConFire Shares Tips for Preventing Wildfires
The grass and other vegetation fires that can grow into dangerous, even deadly wildfires are ALL created by some sort of human activity. Be wildfire safe by following these practices:

Equipment Safety
  • Never mow or trim dry grass on a Red Flag Warning Day. (Mow before 10 a.m. on a day when it’s not hot and windy).
  • Never use lawn mowers in dry vegetation.
  • Spark arrestors are required in wildland areas on all portable gasoline powered equipment.

Defensible Space
  • Residents should make sure they have 100 feet of defensible space around structures.
  • Clear dead weeds and vegetation.
  • Remove leaves and needles from gutters.
  • Trim branches six feet from the ground.

Vehicle Safety
  • Never pull over into or on dry grass.
  • Ensure trailer chains don’t drag on the ground.
  • Make sure your vehicle is properly maintained.
  • Maintain proper tire pressure to avoid driving on wheel rim.
  • Never let your brake pads wear too thin.

Other Tips
  • Make sure cigarette butts and other smoking materials are properly extinguished.
  • Never burn landscape debris like leaves or branches on NO Burn Days or when it’s windy or in areas where not allowed.
  • Target shoot only in approved areas, use lead ammunition only, and never at metal targets.
  • Report any suspicious activities to prevent arson.

Rescheduled: Planning Commission, Design Review Board Consider Objective Design Standards Aug. 29
The City of Concord will host a second special joint meeting of the Planning Commission and Design Review Board on Monday, August 29 at 6 p.m. for considering and providing input on a draft framework for the City’s “Objective Design Standards” (ODS) for housing projects. (This meeting was previously scheduled for Aug. 8, but could not be held due to lack of a quorum.)

This is in response to the City’s April 6 joint special meeting on updating the City’s design standards, as a result of recent State housing legislation.

The meeting will include:
  1. Summary review of the purpose of the project;
  2. Presentation on existing conditions and findings;
  3. Review and discussion of the draft framework for the ODS document; and
  4. Design exercise, including a photo discussion, to identify values and approaches toward design elements and priorities for the application of standards.

Because this is a special meeting, it will be held in-person only in the Permit Center Conference Room –Building D (1950 Parkside Drive), and will not be available by Zoom, nor will it be televised.

The project intends to support Concord’s tradition of high-quality design and streamline the review of housing projects, consistent with the State Housing Accountability Act.
