Use App to Report Illegal Fireworks
All fireworks (even those labeled "safe and sane”) are illegal in Concord and all of Contra Costa County, except for permitted professional displays. This includes bottle rockets, roman candles, firecrackers, and sparklers.

Fireworks are dangerous and cause fires, which can result in severe injury and even death, as well as costly property damage.

People who possess, discharge, sell or manufacture fireworks will be cited and fined.

To report illegal fireworks activity, please use the City's Concord Connect app. Select "Make a Request," and click on "Illegal Fireworks Reporting."

In 2021, the Concord Police Department deployed this successful strategy to help decrease fireworks-related calls to 911, improve response times to community reports of illegal fireworks use, and deter fireworks usage overall.

Between July 1 and July 7, 2021, more than 450 reports of illegal fireworks usage were reported through the app, while 320 fireworks-related calls came in through the City's 911 or non-emergency dispatch phone lines.

If you are reporting an injury, fire or medical emergency, please call 911. If you are not reporting a life-threatening emergency, please use the app so the Police Department can keep its 911 dispatch lines open.
Concord Raises Progress Pride Flag
In honor of Pride Month, Concord Mayor Dominic Aliano raised the Progress Pride flag at City Hall on June 1, with some help from our friends at the Rainbow Community Center Of Contra Costa County.

Concord began flying the Pride flag in 2018 and has since committed to flying it annually during the month of June to demonstrate the City's celebration of diversity, inclusivity, and support for the LGBTQI+ community.

Happy Pride Month, Concord!
Housing Element Update Draft Available for Review, Input
Concord has released its draft Housing Element Update (HEU) for a 30-day public review period through Monday, June 27.

The document and instructions on how to provide comments are available on the project website: www.concordhousingelement.org.

The Housing Element is a required component of the City’s General Plan. It contains goals, policies, and programs to address the housing needs of all Concord residents from 2023 to 2031, including the City’s Regional Housing Needs Allocation of 5,073 units.

On June 14, the City Council will consider the draft HEU and provide input that will be incorporated into a revised draft. Public comments received during the review period will be documented and incorporated into the draft HEU, to the extent feasible and consistent with Council direction.

Library Story Time Events Postponed
We told you recently that in-person story time is going to return to libraries across the County, with the Concord Library hosting its first on June 24.

Unfortunately, due to a recent spike in COVID cases, the Library has postponed the return of in-person story time and all other in-person programs until further notice.

Stay tuned for updates through their Facebook page or website.

Please note that the free student meals for children and teens 18 and under will take place. They are offered Tuesdays and Thursdays in June, beginning June 9.
