Greetings!
Happy New Year! I hope 2020 brings good health and happiness to you.
I want to thank you for the privilege to serve as your Mayor of the City of Fairview Park. I am very excited to get started and to address the many things we have discussed together this past year. Some highlights include working on ways to expand our tax base and increase support for existing businesses; collaborating with our schools to assist them as they educate and empower our students; maintaining and improving streets, sewers, and other essential infrastructure; and supporting our First Responders so they can continue to keep us safe.
A special thanks to the employees of Fairview Park for their dedicated service to our residents. I look forward to working with you in serving our community. I am also grateful to be able to work with City Council to continue to move Fairview Park forward.
Fairview Park is a wonderful place to live, work, play, and invest. We have quality schools, recreational opportunities and businesses within our City, but we are most fortunate for the people who work together for the common good. My commitment as Mayor is to work every day to provide the residents, businesses and organizations of our community with the highest quality of service.
We are here to serve you, so please feel free to contact City Hall with your thoughts and comments. Once again, thank you for this opportunity and best wishes for the New Year and beyond.
Sincerely,
Patrick J. Cooney, Mayor

POLICE DEPARTMENT UPDATE
Neighboring West Shore communities have had incidences of “Distraction Burglaries”. These incidents typically occur when a homeowner lets someone into their home to discuss home repair work, utility issues, etc. While the homeowner is speaking to the person or showing them their meter, a second person will slip in or already be in the house, and while the victim is distracted with the first, steal items from the home. The theft is usually not noticed until long after the perpetrators are gone. The Fairview Park Police Department is urging residents to be cautious in who they let into the house, check for ID or solicitor badges, call to confirm they are legit, and/or call the police if they are suspicious of anyone coming to their door.

FIRE DEPARTMENT UPDATE
Once again we thank you all for your continued support in our mission to provide the City of Fairview Park with excellence in service. Happy New Year!

WASTE COLLECTION SCHEDULE
Rubbish and recycling collection will follow the regular collection schedule for January. Rubbish and recycling
WILL
be collected on the Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, January 20.
The next bulk pick up is Monday, January 20 (the third Monday of the month.)
Please remember not to park in front of trash and recycling carts on collection days. Trucks need 3 feet of space to maneuver and interference from parked cars hinders collection procedures.

SOUPER BINGO
Join us on Monday, January 21 for a great meal and a fun afternoon of BINGO! Senior Center staff will be cooking up their favorite soup recipes for you to enjoy. Your $6 donation will get you a hearty sampling of soups, roll/butter, dessert, and one bingo card. You must sign up at the front desk by Friday, January 11. Bingo sessions are for those participating in the fundraiser only. Lunch served at 11:15 AM with Bingo beginning at NOON.
INCOME TAX PREPARATION
The Fairview Park Senior Center will once again be able to offer tax-preparation assistance through AARP’s Community Service Program.
NOTE:
Due to changes at AARP, they are only able to process half of the number of returns they have done in the past. A photo ID or Social Security Card is required for each person using this service. Also, they are no longer able to visit the homes of shut-ins. A proxy can make an appointment and bring all tax information to the Senior Center on the shut-in’s behalf. Volunteers are IRS-trained and certified and will be available each Tuesday beginning
February 4 through April 7
.
Please call 440-356-4437 after January 2
to schedule an appointment. You have to bring last year’s tax return with you as AARP is using a new computer system and they are unable to look up your past records. If you do not have last year’s return, we are unable to help
you.
