Follow Dr. Katharine Hayhoe
Hayhoe, author of Saving Us, is an atmospheric scientist. She studies climate change and does not accept global warming on faith: She crunches the data, analyzes the models, and helps engineers, city managers, and ecologists quantify the impacts.
Hayhoe advocates for finding common ground to inspire collective action, offering an optimistic and practical approach to addressing the climate crisis through shared values and understanding.

CCRTA awarded grant for low-emission buses
On August 1, a press conference was held at the Hyannis Transportation Center to announce that the Cape Cod Regional Transit Authority (CCRTA) had been awarded a $14.6 million grant for low-emission buses.
āWe are pleased to provide federal support to CCRTA to invest in its bus system, which provides important connections for Cape Cod residents and visitors,ā said FTA Regional Administrator Peter Butler. āThe new hybrid electric buses will help CCRTA reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improve air quality, and meet a goal to transition to a fully electric fleet. As it does so, CCRTA will train workers to develop the skills necessary to maintain buses powered by new technology.ā

Markey's Climate Hub
The passage of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and the Inflation Reduction Act provide a historic opportunity to deliver on the most significant climate and clean energy investments in our nationās history. These laws put us on a path to combat the climate crisis, repair historic harms to disadvantaged communities, and create good union jobs.
| |
Senator Markey is proud to have secured key provisions in the Inflation Reduction Act, including the creation of a $27-billion national climate financing network based on his National Climate Bank Act, funding for environmental justice mapping and community engagement, support for local air quality monitoring, and a brand-new production tax credit for offshore wind technologies made in the United States.
|
Three offshore wind farms selected for powering up Massachusetts and Rhode Island | New England Wind 1, SouthCoast Wind, and Vineyard Wind 2 were selected for contracts in MA and RI. These projects will generate 2,678 megawatts of power for Massachusetts, covering 20% of the state's energy needs. The wind farms are expected to provide clean energy to 1.4 million homes and create thousands of union jobs.

Blade removal begins at Vineyard Wind
Workers have started cutting away part of the remaining portion of the turbine blade that broke one month ago at the Vineyard Wind offshore wind farm.
This article from CAI discusses the removal of blades for repair and Nantucket's push for stricter emergency protocols and better communication related to offshore wind turbines. Learning from these mistakes and making appropriate modifications will be important for the projectās success.
