Chairman's Corner

State Representative Erica Thomas (D-39) needs to resign.
There is no excuse for an elected official to do what she did: allegedly slander a citizen, a Cuban American (who is a fellow Democrat by the way), and then use her made-up victimhood to con donors out of money.
In case you haven't heard, on Saturday, Representative Thomas, who represents a south Cobb district that includes the city of Austell, was in the express checkout lane in a Publix supermarket. There are few things that rank higher on people's annoyance scale as being in the express lane at the supermarket behind another shopper with more than the number of items allowed for use of that lane.
Thomas was being one of those annoying people in the lane with more than the number of items. Eric Sparkes was the frustrated shopper who noticed.
Sparkes is a self-described Democrat and a Cuban American. When he mentioned something about Thomas being in the express lane with more than the maximum number of items, an altercation occurred.
She then goes on and says the man called her a "lazy son of a 'b-word'" and told her "you need to go back to where you came from."
Thomas's excuse for having 15 items in the checkout lane instead of 10 is that she is nine months pregnant. Sparkes supposedly pointed out
the other two non-express lanes were empty
. I don't know any Republican who wouldn't willingly give some leeway to a woman in that situation, and if that was all there was to the story, then Thomas should be given the benefit of the doubt here.
However, since the altercation, Thomas has attempted to walk back her claims that Sparkes taunted her with "you need to go back to where you came from."
She has since backtracked claiming she wasn't sure what Sparkes said, telling the
media
, "I don't know if he said 'go back,' or those types of words ... I don't know if he said 'go back to your country' or 'go back to where you came from,' but he was making those types of references is what I remember."
However, despite being unsure of if Sparkes was channeling President Trump or not, it didn't stop Thomas from capitalizing on the incident with a fundraising appeal to supporters:
|
|
|
If that wasn't enough, what makes her claims even less credible, looking more like she's trying to cash-in on the recent national controversy, after the tweets made by President Trump last week Sparkes had something to say on his Facebook page about it. He shared with WXIA what he posted suggesting President Donald Trump should "
go back to Germany" and his "Nazi roots.
"
|
|
|
Still, the national media couldn't wait to jump on the chance to tie the incident to Donald Trump and Republicans, dispute the fact that if it happened at all, it was between two Democrats.
Sparkes is accusing Thomas of making up the story for "political purposes." If she has indeed done so, and defamed a private citizen in the media and for fundraising purposes, then Thomas needs to resign her seat in the Georgia House, and, if she won't do so voluntarily, the Democratic Party leadership and the Caucus needs to force her out.
But this underlies an even greater problem that is tearing our nation apart, and blame lies completely with left-winged Democrats and their willing allies in the media. A couple of days ago the headline blazed from the MSN.com website:
A former candidate for city council in Sandy Springs commented on my Facebook page in response to the MSN article, "
I don’t know if Trump is a racist. He hasn’t confided in me, and I can’t see into his heart. He does repeat racist things, and has for ages. He counts on racists voting for him, or else he wouldn’t employ these campaign tactics."
He went on to add, "He’s completely failed to live up to the office, and should not be within miles of the White House, never mind in the Oval Office, but that’s not my decision to make. I understand that some people still like him, some, I assume, are good people. I don’t understand how anyone defends him."
Another Republican and former candidate for office in Cobb County told the AJC in reference to the President's Tweets,
“Enough’s enough. It’s time for folks to vote out the nonsense and keep the good stuff. Vote out Donald Trump. Keep Donald Trump’s example of what we can do to make America stronger,”
While most Republicans are firmly behind the President, there are still those in the Republican Party who will perpetuate the Democratic mantra that Trump is a racist. However, they seem to forget that "racist" is how every Republican nominee and President has been labeled by the left.
Whether it was Nixon's "Southern Strategy" that didn't help him win the South, Reagan's speech on "State's Rights" in Mississippi, coupled with his "War on Drugs" and campaign against "Welfare kings", George H.W. Bush's use of the "Willie Horton" ad, to other attacks on Dole, George W. Bush, John McCain, and Mitt Romney, they all have been called racist, but never has the extent been wide or the attacks this vitriolic.
I suspect the reason is Donald Trump, unlike the others (with the exception of Ronald Reagan), fights back.
"Partial list of people President Trump has told to go home: British ambassador, Epstein, our troops overseas, criminals released under First Step Act, prisoners pardoned, Hillary, illegal immigrants, and the Squad."
Still, for a week, the media playing their dutiful part in the propaganda machine of the left, made sure that the President's Tweets were always referred to as "Trump's Racist Tweets."
There is nothing "racist" about telling anyone to "leave" or "go home,"
Lewis Grizzard
did it as part of his comedy act for years.
Even a hand-picked
CNN panel
of Republican women, including an immigrant, saw nothing "racist" in the comment.
Seeing the growing problem in 2015,
Karol Markowicz in
an op-ed in
The New York Post
wrote, “The real problem with such “everything is racist” hyper-awareness is that it minimizes the meaning of the word until it’s just background noise.
To state the obvious: If everything is racist, then nothing is racist and actual racism goes unchecked — or at least is more easily ignored or dismissed.”
Sadly, now many Republicans unable to distinguish true racism from simple dissent and disagreement that they too have joined the sounding of the false alarm. When we are threatened with true racism, will we be even able to recognize it anymore and how can we fight what we can’t recognize?
As economist Thomas Sowell tweeted this past week:
|
|
|
Republicans who embrace the “racist” narrative all over social media just make it more difficult to call out people who espouse beliefs contrary to our nation and our culture of freedom. If I cannot oppose ideas without the red herring counter-attack of “racism, ” then the GOP has lost.
We might as well join the left and adopt socialism as our economic philosophy, help the left throw open the borders, surrender our national sovereignty, lower our flag for the final time, and hold a public “book burning” of the Constitution and Declaration of Independence as the ideals embodied by those documents will have been lost forever.
The goal is, of course, to make sure that any political opposition to the left is banned as a form of "hate speech." This was firmly on display last week as "The View's" Joy Behar questioned
why Trump wasn't prosecuted
for "hate speech!"
How far are we still from a time where people are judged by the content of their character, and not the color of their skin as one person dreamed that August day in 1963 on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial.
If we are going to be a free society that realizes the full potential of that dream, then we cannot allow any opposition, whether on the right or the left, to be silenced based on the race, color, creed, or ethnicity of the speaker or of those to which the speech is directed.
It is for attempting to silence the speech of her constituent and for holding him out to national hate and contempt as a "racist," Erica Thomas needs to step down and should never have the power over others her position affords.
A free society can demand no less.
Yours in Freedom,

This past weekend, Republicans from all across Georgia attended political training to get prepared for the 2020 elections. Cobb Republicans traveled to Warner Robbins and Chickamauga to get ready to help re-elect David Perdue and Donald Trump. Chairman Jason Shepherd conducted training for a full house of over 40 activists in NW Georgia with six county party chairs attending the training. In Warner Robbins, a "sold out" crowd listened to Trump Campaign staffer Dan Coates and other party leaders.
