The theme of this convention was "Let There Be Light," and references to creation abounded. Bishop Kendrick's opening address focused on creation as the gift and imagination of God, and the keynote speakers spoke about caring for creation as a scientist and a priest.
One of the highlights of the weekend was a new liturgy developed especially for this convention, entitled "Walking the Way of Creation," and was held outside on the beach and inside in the ballroom. The outside event ended at the shoreline near sunset (pictured above, photo by Edward Pate, St. Stephen's, Brewton). The diocesan Youth Delegation led the indoor Way of Creation and did a wonderful job! Many participants indicated that they wish to use the Way of Creation at their own churches, perhaps for Earth Day or Rogation Sunday. You can find the text of the liturgy here, the slide show here, and the placards that were posted outside here.
Another popular feature of this year's convention was the book exchange. In the spirit of "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle," the commission sponsored the exchange, which was very well received. Many suggested that a book exchange should happen every year...so we will work on that!
Welcome to those who signed up at the Commission's exhibit table to receive this monthly newsletter. We hope that you find much to inspire you in the months ahead.
