Welcome to April, with its blooming springtime, Easter season, and Earth Day activities. All of this makes April a perfect month to celebrate resurrection in all its forms and to discern how we are called to practice resurrection in caring for our planet. Check out the Earth Day Resources section below for great ideas to plan Earth Month activities at your church. And don't forget to encourage clergy, the choir, and all teachers to focus on Creation Care on April 19 or 26!

At diocesan convention we featured a new walking meditation entitled Walking the Way of Creation, created by Bishop Kendrick and members of the Commission on the Integrity of Creation. That resource can be found at the diocesan website for use at your own church.

We also revealed our new creation care video, created for the Commission by Dave Fowlkes at Trinity Episcopal Church in Apalachicola. Take a look here. Thanks Dave, we appreciate you using your talents on behalf of creation!

The Creation Care Compline is creatively adapted from the service in the Book of Common Prayer by a different team of facilitators each month. Mindfulness of God's creation is woven throughout the peaceful service. Creation Care Compline is generally held the first Monday of each month and is a partnership between the Green Caucus and the Mission Program Office of The Episcopal Church Presiding Bishop’s Office. This month's Compline:

Exploring a Christian Response

to Climate-Linked Mobility

The global surge in migration over the past decades, often linked to climate change, is now frequently in the news and has spurred a new era of hard-right politics in wealthier countries, including the United States. According to Colette Pichon Battle, a New Orleans-based climate justice strategist and lawyer, “We must start preparing for global migration today. It's a reality now. Our cities and our communities are not prepared.”

Join Lella Lowe, Chair of the Commission on the Integrity of Creation for the Diocese of the Central Gulf Coast, as she sets the stage for what we are facing and invites conversation about the role of faith communities in preparing for climate-linked mobility and the Christian call to compassion and solidarity with the poor and the stranger.

Learn, Pray, Act, Advocate is a tagline used by the Episcopal Church to help guide us in living out our faith. In the Creation Care section of TEC’s website, it goes on to say, “For God’s sake… we will advocate to act to repair Creation…” At St. C’s, in our worship, Manna and Faith Forum programming, Holy Strolls, and various actions, we have been growing in living out our call to creation care for some time. In this section, I’d like to highlight three organizations with local chapters that have advocacy as a strong part of their missions - Audubon Society, Healthy Gulf, and Florida Native Plant Society.

As with many organizations, one of the easiest things you can do is simply join and renew your membership yearly. When organizations like these are seeking grants or advocating at state and national levels, the larger the membership, the more officials pay attention. Just being “part of that number” is a big help. Each of the three following organizations have nominal yearly dues and monthly newsletters where, in addition to education and activity information, current situations needing advocacy are highlighted, generally in the form of some type of “action alert”. I can testify from personal experience that your inbox will not be overwhelmed if you sign up, so fear not! You can also just sign up for the newsletter and/or action alerts without paying a membership fee. And there’s no pressure to attend meetings or participate if it doesn’t fit your schedule right now - you can simply be on a list and stay informed.
