NEWS FROM THE COMMUNITY GARDENS
May 6, 2019

Dear Gardeners,

I'm looking forward to seeing everyone at the mandatory meeting for community gardeners on Tuesday, May 7, from 6 to 7 pm at the farm . Several people have indicated they are out of town during this time and have requested an alternate meeting date. Please let me know immediately if you need to be placed on the list for the second meeting.

Garden Updates

New Garden Beds
Thank you to the dedicated and enthusiastic volunteers who have worked nearly every weekend this spring to construct new garden beds. Hats off to Rich Torkelson for being the leading force behind this work. And thanks to the volunteers who have helped with mulching and spring cleanup!

Site work
Preliminary site grading has been completed and we'll soon be scheduling the final push for volunteer help to install garden beds, landscape fabric, soil, and pathway stone dust. Watch for upcoming weekday and weekend work days beginning May 13.

Compost
We received our bulk order of McEnroe's organic compost last week to be used exclusively for community gardeners. Large 1 cubic yard bags are located at each corner of the garden for your use. Due to a generous discount from McEnroe, you can fill a 5-gallon pail for $2.00. Due to the volume of gardeners this year, please limit your purchase to 2 pails. Payments can be left in the garden shed.

Seeds
If you have extra seeds or seedlings you'd like to share, please leave them in the garden shed for other gardeners.

Plant Sale
As mentioned in the last newsletter, we'll be offering organic vegetable and flower starts for sale to all community gardeners on May 18 from 8 to 9:30 a.m. in the garden.

Programs and Events
As always, please check our website and Facebook page for all current happenings and events. What an exciting year planned!

Please send your questions or comments my way. I look forward to seeing you on Tuesday.

Best, Joyce
