Cross Currents
October 2019
A Message from the Director
I hope you enjoyed the video of our 2019 Perki-Bay Expedition. We're currently recruiting for our 2020 program... if you have a high school student or know of one who might be interested, have them contact the Conservancy for this once-in-a-lifetime program opportunity!

We're just one month away from the Conservancy's big annual benefit, "A Night for Conservation". Join us on November 1st at the Phoenixville Foundry for this exceptional evening as we celebrate our community's environmental leaders with food, fun, raffles, tastings, and more... This is an event you don't want to miss!

We also have some great "Out and About" opportunities on the horizon! On October 13th, we'll head to Hawk Mountain Sanctuary to watch the fall migration and for a little hike, which I like to the call the "Grand Tour"! Yoga at the Perk is in full swing... Join us for our next two sessions and get your stretch on! We have a rain barrel workshop in November, and registration is now open for the Freeze-Up 5k in December.

Last, the Perkiomen Plant-A-Thon is in full-swing.... Join us in our effort to plant 10,000 natives in local restoration projects throughout the watershed! Our next big project is the construction of a rain garden in Lansdale. As part of this project, we'll also install an underground stormwater storage system to double the impact of the garden! Now's the time to start planning your own stormwater BMP in your municipality. Contact the Conservancy to learn how we can streamline the process for you!
Enjoy the weather, and I hope to see you "out there"!

Calling all high school students interested in the environment and conservation! We want YOU to join the Perkiomen Watershed Youth Conservation Corps (PWYCC)!
PWYCC is a service learning program that is held from January to June in which students work with the Conservancy to further our mission of conserving and protecting the land and water resources of the watershed. While helping the Conservancy achieve its goals, students also learn valuable conservation and outreach skills. Members participate in events like the Stream Clean-up, invasive species removal projects, canoe paddling sessions, and more.
PWYCC members meeting the program requirements are invited to attend the Perki-Bay Expedition, a 50-mile self-supported canoeing and camping trip. The expedition launches in Schwenksville and follows the Perkiomen Creek, Schuylkill River, and Delaware River to Fort Mifflin in Philadelphia. To learn more about PWYCC and apply for the program, visit our website!
