EEC and Gilles-Sweet Elementary 

Most recently in the kindergarten classrooms we talked about positive friendship qualities and ways to include others. The students were very excited to tell us all what they knew about being a good friend. Future lesson topics are: Coping with uncomfortable emotions, careers, and safety! Here are the strategies they will learn:


This year, all students in the building are learning about uncomfortable emotions and then coping strategies to calm themselves when feeling these emotions. The strategies include:
  • Take deep breaths
  • Count slowly
  • Walk away from the situation
  • Practice positive self-talk
  • Brain Break: take a lap, read, write or draw
  • Think nice thoughts or think about your calm spot

Comfortable Cafeteria is coming to Third Grade Lunch! The purpose of this 6-week program is to create a positive cafeteria environment by providing the cafeteria staff and students with the necessary knowledge, skills, and resources needed to sustain a comfortable cafeteria throughout the school year. The goal of implementing this 6-week program is to create a positive cafeteria culture for all students. Once we pilot this with third grade, we want to expand to each grade level lunch!
Mayer Middle School
Attention parents of next year's 9th graders
On Friday, March 15, the counseling department will host two meetings for parents of students entering 9th grade next year.  Two sessions available -- 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. at the  Gemini Center.

8th Graders were visited by Mrs. Walsh to begin the transition process to the 9th grade. Monthly activities have been planned. Scheduling and graduation requirements including credits, required courses and end of course exams were discussed. Here is the powerpoint for further information.
Fairview High School
The scheduling process for the 2019-2020 school year has begun! If you haven't turned in your sheet, please do so by next Tuesday, February 19th. Otherwise, your classes will be selected for you.  After May 17th, NO CHANGES can be made to academic courses.

ACT for all Juniors on February 20th:  All juniors will be taking the ACT on Wednesday, February 20th starting at 8:25am.  This version of the ACT is online, so students must bring their UPDATED and FULLY CHARGED computers.  The ACT will take about 3.5-4 hours and the students will be able to go home after the test is complete.  No registration is necessary and this administration of the ACT is FREE! Cleveland Clinic Summer Internships:  There are several internship opportunities available for high school students.  Check out the website for application materials and eligibility requirements.

Seniors:  Don't forget to check the Scholarships tab of the district website for scholarship opportunities!  Make sure to know your deadlines!

Sophomores!  Look Up to Cleveland is looking for applicants.  This leadership program is highly regarded and fun!  Specific information can be found here.
