Yes! We'll Be Taking Donations! Please Read
Dear Patrons of the Cranford Public Library,

Over the past year, we know there've been some stretches when it wasn't easy to find much to do. We can infer, from the number of calls we'd get about donating books, that your garages, basements, bedrooms and bookshelves are likely spotless at this point. Unfortunately, with no sales taking place and an already packed Friendly Book Cellar, the Friends of the Cranford Public Library have had no place to put your donations. But that's about to change...

Due to the tremendous success of the June Used Book Sales, the Friends of the Library are preparing to take donated books again! Because of the high volume of materials we are expecting, we are going to start out with limited hours for acceptance of donations. We'll be accepting donations on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm, starting on June 29, 2021. Please bring your materials you wish to donate to the Circulation Desk, on the library's first floor, where staff and volunteers will be on hand to accept them from you. We ask that that you work within these hours for the time being, and not leave donated books in the book drops or outside the library. We plan to expand these hours in the future.

As always, the Friends are unable to accept encyclopedia, dictionaries, condensed books, VHS tapes, audiocassettes, vinyl records, or materials that are damaged or moldy.

If you missed the June Book Sales, never fear: register here for the next sale, taking place from Thursday, August 12 through Saturday, August 14! That link will also provide you with information on the time, place and requirements for attendees. Save the following dates for upcoming sales!

September 24 and 25 - Children's Book Sale for Cranford Library Cardholders
October 14, 15 and 16 - Used Book Sale
Changes to Policies and Procedures
At this point, the public areas of the library's First Floor, with the exception of the Fridlington Room (small meeting area), are open for browsing and study. On Monday, June 28, we will restore access the library's Second Floor. Adult Nonfiction and Reference collections will be open and available for browsing. Additional seating will be available. The Library's Computer Lab will be open and in-person reference assistance will be restored (possibly for limited hours, but with a full schedule to be restored shortly afterward). A photocopying machine will also be available to the public. As covered in the Personal Protective Equipment Policy adopted by the Cranford Public Library Board of Trustees, the use of masks or face coverings and social distancing are strongly encouraged on the Library's Second Floor.

Also, on Tuesday, July 6, we are implementing the following changes:

The Cranford Public Library will open at 10:00 am, Monday through Friday.

Due to CDC reports on the low risk of surface transmission, we are ending the quarantine period for materials borrowed from the Library. The most effective barrier against surface transmission is frequent cleaning and good hand hygiene. Hand sanitizer will remain available to library staff and visitors.
Upcoming Programs: Literary Cafe and Theater Project
Please keep an eye on our calendar of events for more virtual, outdoor and indoor programs for all ages this year.

Literary Cafe IN PERSON at the Library! - For the first time in over a year, the Literary Cafe will meet face to face on Saturday, July 10 at 10:15 am! Join us to learn what everyone has been reading over the past year, and to enjoy coffee and doughnuts, compliments of the Friends of the Library! You can also use this link to attend via Zoom if you're not yet ready to visit the library in person, but you still want to jump in virtually.

Then later that afternoon, join us for a Zoom Live Reading from the Theater Project on Saturday, July 10 at 2:00 pm. The Friends of the Cranford Public Library invite everyone to attend a live theatrical performance - from the safety and comfort of your living room. New Jersey’s own Theater Project will present a virtual script-in-hand reading of "Stalled," an original short play by Kyle Mazer. The reading will be followed by a question and answer session with the audience, director, playwright and cast.
Closed July 5 to Celebrate Independence Day
Finally, the Library will be closed on Monday, July 5 to celebrate Independence Day. We hope you enjoy your weekend, and that you'll come visit us at the Library soon!

Thank you, and hope all’s well,
