From the President

It is with great honor and privilege that I will serve you all as President of the Crown Point Board of Realtors®.

2020 was a blur. . . one minute we are in our offices, showing properties and living the dream. The next we are all sent to our homes, under quarantine and trying to do business with a slew of new protocols. Me personally – I enjoyed being at home, sitting in my cat jammies, talking to buyers and working from home, but it felt that April to December went by in the blink of the eye.

Hopefully, 2021 brings us continued success as a board. In my years of being a Realtor®, I have never seen anything like this current market. Multiple offers, sight unseen offers, over list price and no inspection offers. These are crazy times! It is during times like these that our patience and practices are put to the test.

We are going to have questions. I would be surprised if most of you have not had questions this year. We will need to work together, help each other and communicate more. We are seeing scenarios that look new to all of us. It is my goal that we all commit to making this year a great one for us all here at CPBR. As we move through 2021, these newsletters will contain tips, tools and information on new protocols.

I am planning a productive year for our board. We will work at meeting our Core Standards, raising money for our community fund, getting some education in and having fun while doing all this!!

We have started the year off with our Superbowl RPAC fundraiser. RPAC fundraising is part of our Core Standards and helps us meet our state goals. Squares are $10 each. Please contact me soon to get yours!! I will give you the instructions on money collection.

We will be doing our fundraising again for food shelves and for our community fund. Last year, our members raised over $5000 for local food shelves! A huge round of applause to all of you! I know we can do this again this year!! You will be updated once these campaigns get underway.

The Vermont Association of Realtors® has unveiled VAR Connect, a member-only community that provides a forum for member-to-member discussions and sharing of information. You can find a link using the button below. I urge all of you to go check it out, log in and create your profile.

It is fitting that January is national Mentor month. I can think of no better way to start the year than to be mentoring and being the example to someone else in a positive way. We are so proud to have Joan Morey as a member of our board, someone who has mentored and trained many agents in their years of service. Read more about Joan in our Realtor® Spotlight below.

Q. How long have you been an agent?
A. 40+ years, I'm thinking. I have never counted.

Q. What about being a Realtor® do you love the most?
The opportunity to make a difference in an area that is often too much of a maze for buyers to handle.

Q. You have spent some time training new agents, what piece of advice would you give to any agent?
Your career will never be 9AM to 5PM, Monday through Friday.

Q. If you could go back in time and give yourself a piece of advice what would you tell your younger self?
Just because you routinely sell real estate, never forget this may be the first time your client has ever approached the process. Communicate! Never assume your buyers or sellers know and understand what you're doing behind the scenes on their behalf.

Q. What is your favorite Vermont activity?
I feel blessed to be a native Vermonter. I love waking up each morning in this environment which I call home for its beauty and it's people.Everything else I do here is simply a bonus!
CPBR Trivia

Vermont is a great place to live and work and, because of COVID, our little secret is out to all those flocking here to make this their home. In appreciation of our great state, we will offer some trivia in each newsletter about Vermont.

What is the state motto? And, what year was it adopted?

Answers will be posted on our CPBR Facebook page.
Monthly Tip

Want to share some fun facts with your clients and customers? PeakFinder is a free app for smartphones that shows the names and elevations of surrounding peaks. It's a great tool and easy to use.

Thanks to Claudia Harris of Mary Mitchell Real Estate for this great tip. Have a tip you'd like to share? Email Lisa Kelley at lisa@cummingsvt.com.
