Incorporation of Competencies
in Classroom Learning
Two school-wide faculty retreats were held to review and revise student learning to better equip graduates with career-ready competencies.
In October, faculty in all three departments committed to incorporating National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) competencies (i.e., career and self-development; communication; critical thinking; equity and inclusion; leadership, professionalism, teamwork; technology) in all academic programs, while also starting the work of developing the AACSB’s (Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business) Assurance of Learning (AoL) framework. In the months that ensued:
- A review and revision of the learning objectives of all courses were conducted, along with mapping these to the development of competencies in each course.
- Standard syllabi, which include the mapping of competencies to courses and learning objectives of each course, were prepared and voted in the departments to be introduced in Fall 2023.
In March, the school faculty began developing assessment plans to evaluate students' attainment of career-ready competencies in all programs.
