One of the most intriguing incidents in the early ministry of Jesus involved the cleansing of a leper. The Gospel of Mark (1: 40-45) records that a man with leprosy approached Jesus, knelt before him, and begged to be cured. Jesus, “moved with pity” cured the man but then “warned him sternly” not to tell anyone what had happened. “See that you tell no one anything,” Jesus demanded.

PROVIDENCE — Kristen Costa, 35, is a supermom. She’s caring for her two children, navigating work, motherhood and her own personal health concerns — in a pandemic no less. The Rumford resident was recently diagnosed with cervical cancer and has been recuperating from a partial hysterectomy. She had a payment plan with National Grid for her electric, but was unable to keep current with the agreed upon budget plan plus the current bill. Finances were getting tight.

US Bishops are calling on American Catholics to “enter more deeply by faith and love” into the Mystery of Mysteries, the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist.
Meeting for the Fall General Assembly of the US Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB), the Bishops on Wednesday approved a document dedicated to the Eucharist with a secret electronic vote of 222 in favor and 8 against, with 3 abstentions - an overwhelming consensus of over 95%.

The Special Religious Education (SPRED) mission is to form small communities of faith in parishes to welcome persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities and foster inclusion in assemblies of worship. This ministry assists parishes in deepening the faith of “special friends,” helping them to participate fully in the work and liturgical life of the church.

Holy Trinity Parish, Woonsocket, holds first bilingual "Life in the Spirit" seminar series

The six-week seminar series was organized by the Spanish Prayer Group “Fe, Esperanza y Amor” (Faith Hope and Love). At the final meeting held last Saturday, participants - consisting of 41 Spanish-speaking and 20 English-speaking parishioners - were prayed over and received baptism in the Holy Spirit. Organizers were assisted by leaders of St. Edward and St. Patrick parishes, Providence, and the diocesan Office of Hispanic Ministry.

Seminars are designed to help people find a new and fuller and better life as Christians by laying or strengthening the foundation of a truly Christian life.

Most Rev. Thomas J. Tobin, Bishop of Providence, was the principal celebrant and homilist of the 17th annual Human Life Guild Mass on Saturday, October 16 at 9:30 a.m. in the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul, Providence. Following Holy Mass, Bishop Tobin honored four individuals with a Human Life Guild Award.

Gloria Purvis, a national pro-life speaker as well as a radio personality and Catholic commentator, spoke on "Born and Unborn: The Integrity of the Human Person in The Womb and Society," Saturday, October 16 at 11 a.m. in McVinney Auditorium, Providence.
