Bishop Tobin restores the Sunday Mass Obligation
Effective Sunday, June 6, 2021, on the Solemnity of Corpus Christi
"O God, bring me your holy mountain,
to the place of your dwelling,
that I may come to the altar of God,
to God, my joy, my delight." (Ps 43:3-4)

Most Rev. Bishop Thomas J. Tobin announced today that he has signed a formal decree restoring the obligation to attend Sunday Mass in the Diocese of Providence effective Sunday, June 6, 2021, the Solemnity of Corpus Christi.

Bishop Tobin emphasized that since the pandemic lingers, some individuals are not obligated to attend Sunday Mass, and perhaps should not attend Sunday Mass to protect their health and safety, and that of others.

The Faces Behind The Headlines
From Bishop Tobin
The news in recent weeks has carried an unusual number of stories about awful tragedies that have occurred around the globe.

I’m thinking of the sinking of the Indonesian submarine in which 53 sailors were lost in the depths of the ocean; the inferno at the hospital in Iraq that killed 82, mostly Covid patients; the 41 refugees who drowned in the Mediterranean Sea when their rickety boat sank as they attempted a perilous crossing; and the growing, horrendous Covid disaster in India where more than 200,000 people have died, the hospitals are filled, and the fields are littered with too many bodies to count.

St. Pius V students honor the Blessed Mother as they fully reunite for first school event since pandemic began
PROVIDENCE — The St. Pius V School community gathered fully together for the first time since before the pandemic began at last Friday’s May Crowning outside of the Providence school. Safely spaced and conscious of health precautions, students and faculty came together to kick off the month by honoring Mary, mother of Jesus, as “the Queen of May.”

National Shrine to host May 17 worldwide praying of the rosary
WASHINGTON (CNS) — The Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception will host a recitation of the rosary on Monday, May 17, at noon (EDT) as part of Pope Francis’ call for a worldwide marathon of rosaries for an end to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Each day during May at noon, the rosary will be prayed from a different Marian shrine around the world. Pope Francis began the rosary marathon May 1 at the Vatican and will conclude it there on May 31.

Washington Cardinal Wilton D. Gregory will lead the recitation of the rosary at the basilica May 17.

The World of Finance
The Pope reminds us this month: “We still have time to begin a process of global change to practice a different kind of economy, one that is more just, more inclusive and sustainable —and leaves no one behind.” We can all contribute, to a greater or lesser degree, to make this global change possible.
