A Harvest of Holiness
“The Rosary, so easy and yet so rich, deserves to be rediscovered by the Christian community...The Rosary remains a prayer of great significance, destined to bring forth a harvest of holiness.” (St. John Paul II)

It is October, the month of the Holy Rosary. And it is harvest time, when farms and gardens produce their abundant fruit. For those two reasons, among others, it seems especially appropriate that we focus once again on the beauty and power of the Holy Rosary. And there’s no better place to turn for our reflection than St. John Paul’s beautiful Apostolic Letter, “The Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary.”

Lifelong fan, Father Ray Suriani, gifted with tickets to Green Bay Packers game as he marks end of cancer treatment
By Laura Kilgus, Assistant Editor, RI Catholic
WESTERLY — On August 31, Father Raymond Suriani, pastor emeritus of St. Pius X, visited with a few close friends, family and parishioners around the rectory dining table. Green and yellow balloons tied to his chair danced as his loved ones enjoyed sweet treats and sips of Del’s Lemonade. Notably, the atmosphere was filled with a feeling of friendship and gratefulness to God. This afternoon in late August marked the end of Father Suriani’s last treatment for prostate cancer. After nine weeks of radiation therapy and 44 treatments it was certainly a day worth celebrating.

Diocese blessed by rich faith, service of permanent deacons
By Laura Kilgus, Assistant Editor, RI Catholic
WARWICK — On Thursday, Sept. 23, Bishop Thomas J. Tobin welcomed the permanent deacons of the Diocese of Providence to the chapel at Aldrich Mansion in Warwick Neck, for a beautiful evening of prayer, thanks and community.

Many deacons and their wives gathered at the chapel for evening prayer with the bishop. In his blessing to the deacons, Bishop Tobin wanted to recognize the deacons for their devotion to the church, as the diocese begins to celebrate its’ 150th anniversary. For about 45 years, bishop said the permanent deacon program has been a very important part of the diocese.

Last Friday, Oct. 1, was a very dark day
as the House of Representatives voted to pass
the most radical abortion bill ever.

It is likely that the Senate will also vote on this bill in the very near future. So, please contact your two Senators to strongly urge their opposition to the Senate version of this bill (S. 1975) when it comes up for a vote.
