Bishop Tobin to open diocesan phase of Synod on Synodality
By Rick Snizek, Executive Editor, RI Catholic
PROVIDENCE — Pope Francis on Sunday celebrated a Mass in St. Peter’s Basilica at the Vatican to formally open the process that will lead up to the 16th ordinary assembly of the World Synod of Bishops in 2023.
With a theme “For a Synodal Church: Communion, Participation, and Mission,” known colloquially as the “Synod on Synodality,” this two-year synodal process will be unlike any held previously.
In the Synod on Synodality, Pope Francis is calling for the direct participation of the people of God at all levels, especially the lay people, so that they may listen, share and reflect on ways to renew the faith and make it more accessible.
The Holy Father’s goal in convening the synod is to invite the entire Church to reflect on a theme that is decisive for its life and mission, one that will broaden participation through evangelization.

Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel; he has come to his people and set them free...He promised of old that he would save us from our enemies, from the hands of all who hate us. (Lk 1:68; 70-71)
In his canticle, Zechariah rejoiced that the Lord had come to the People of srael to save them from their enemies, from those who hated them. But it begs the question: Who is the enemy today? It’s a good question since, according to one count, the word enemy (or “enemies”) is found in the Bible 372 times! So,
who are our enemies?

Effort needed to bridge racial divide in church, society, says Black bishop
By: Mark Pattison, Catholic News Service
WASHINGTON (CNS) — The racial divide in American society and within the Catholic Church is one that needs to be bridged so that healing and progress can take place, said retired Bishop Edward K. Braxton of Belleville, Illinois.
“My hope is to move some people to make realistic efforts to bridge the racial divide. This can only come about by deep interior conversion of hearts and minds,” Bishop Braxton said Oct. 8.

All are invited to an Afternoon to Honor Mary and Jesus.

Friday, Oct. 1, was a very dark day
as the House of Representatives voted to pass
the most radical abortion bill ever.
It is likely that the Senate will also vote on this bill in the very near future. So, please contact your two Senators to strongly urge their opposition to the Senate version of this bill (S. 1975) when it comes up for a vote.
