A Happy and Blessed Mother's Day!
Confirmation Names
From Bishop Tobin
In celebrating the Sacrament of Confirmation I’m often intrigued by, and sometimes bemused by, the names candidates take as they receive the sacrament.

As you know, it’s customary, though not obligatory, for the Confirmandi to take a new name. And the taking of a new name at various moments of our religious journey is not unusual; it’s part of our tradition. An infant is named in the Baptism Rite. Consecrated men and women assume a new name at their profession. And, of course, the pope takes a new name when he’s elected.

In case you missed it!

The Diocese of Providence celebrates St. Joseph the Worker
PROVIDENCE — The virtues of St. Joseph — faith, obedience, humility, courage and trust — are the same virtues that Christians need to be faithful to the vocations God has called them to, said Bishop Thomas J. Tobin.

“They are the virtues we need to be faithful disciples of Jesus. As we strive to be faithful disciples of Jesus and grow in holiness and virtue, it is St. Joseph who points the way for us,” Bishop Tobin said in his homily during Mass at the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul on May 1, the memorial of St. Joseph the Worker.

Pope: One act of pure love is greatest miracle Christians can perform
VATICAN CITY (CNS) — Contemplative prayer transforms and purifies the human heart, Pope Francis said.

Being contemplative in prayer is an act of faith and love, it is “the ‘breath’ of our relationship with God,” he said during his weekly general audience May 5.

Continuing his series of talks on prayer, the pope reflected on contemplative prayer, which is not so much a way of doing, “but a way of being,” he said.
