FOR AM PRESCHOOL ON THURSDAY, EXPECT MORE CONGESTION THAN NORMAL AS THE ELEMENTARY WILL ALSO BE DISMISSING AT 11:30

REMEMBER: COLD LUNCHES ONLY ON THURSDAY AND FRIDAY

ILLNESS AND EXCLUSION

We are, unfortunately, in the season of many illnesses. While it is definitely a challenge to rearrange work schedules for a sick child, we ask that you keep your child home if they are ill. When an ill child attends, despite protocols to help decrease the spread of illness, we often see a cycle of sharing with the rest of the class and, ultimately, the teachers. We currently have many teachers out battling illness and are nearing the point of not being able to find adequate coverage to provide care. Our goal is to keep everyone safe and healthy, and have our program open for all of our intended days. Thank you for partnering with us to ensure that happens! As a reminder, here are some of the things we do to decrease the spread of illness:

  • Frequent, proper handwashing
  • The cleaning and sanitizing of tables before and after meals and after activities
  • Frequent cleaning of toys
  • A thorough cleaning each night by our custodial service
  • Each child has their own cubby to keep their items separate

As an additional note, If your child remains in extended care for preschool, you will find their belongings in their cubby in their homeroom classroom, not necessarily their extended care classroom. This is in effort to keep everyone's items separated and in their own space.

AUTOMATIC RE-ENROLLMENT FOR 2024-2025

We are preparing for next school year’s enrollment! Your child will automatically be re-enrolled into the next grade level, unless we hear from you by Wednesday, January 31st.

The 2024/2025 applications and packets will open this Friday, December 1st. As current families, you are able to enroll siblings before we open enrollment to the public on February 1, 2024. You do not need to complete an application for children already attending Messiah. However, please let Kathy know the schedule they will be attending at [email protected] . An email with the schedule choices was sent earlier this week.

If your child will be going to Kindergarten, either at Messiah or elsewhere, please let Kathy know that as well. If you would like more information on Kindergarten at Messiah, please email Heather at [email protected] and she will be happy to help you!

SECOND STEP SOCIAL EMOTIONAL CURRICULUM

  • The preschool years are very important. We want your child to be as ready as possible for kindergarten. This is not just about knowing letters and numbers. It’s also about knowing how to learn and get along with others. We will be using the Second Step early learning program in your child’s classroom to teach these important skills.
  • The Second Step program teaches skills in the following four areas:
  • 1. Skills for Learning: Children gain skills to help them be better learners, including how to focus their attention, listen carefully, and ask for help.
  • 2. Empathy: Children learn to identify and understand their own and others’ feelings. Children also learn how to show care for others.
  • 3. Emotion Management: Children learn how to calm down when they have strong feelings, such as worry or anger.
  • 4. Friendship Skills and Problem Solving: Children learn how to make and keep friends and to solve problems with others in a positive way.

TEACHERS' FAVORITE THINGS

As we edge nearer to Christmas, many have been asking for where to find information about teachers' interests. There are binders near Kathy's office in the Preschool wing and on the entry bench in the Toddler wing of some of the teachers' favorite things. For an easy reference, click below for a staff list by room.

COLD WEATHER GEAR

  • There are very few days we will not go outside, at least for a bit! Please be sure to send clothing to prepare for outdoor play!
  • As snowfall looms, now is a good time to consider sending a hat, gloves or mittens and snowboots to have at school (or ready to send with on snowy days!) There is not much better than being able to play in the snow!
