Welcome Sister Death

Dr. Lyle F. Renodin

Dr. Lyle F. Renodin, lifelong friend and financial advisor of the Franciscan Sisters of Allegany, passed away November 8, 2023.

Lyle was born in 1928 in Lowville, NY, son of the late Joseph John and Anna Mae Hogan Noody. He is predeceased by his nine siblings Edward Noody, Eugene Noody, Robert Noody, Charles Renodin, James Noody, Joseph Noody, Blanche DeCann, Margaret Renodin, and Darryl Renodin.

Lyle attended St. Stephen Catholic school, Croghan, NY where he first met and was educated by the Allegany Franciscans. Lyle received a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Siena College in 1951. After serving a two-year term in the United States Army during the Korean War, he worked in public accounting while continuing graduate education. He received a Master’s Degree in Business Administration in 1956 from Siena College and became a certified public accountant in 1957. In 1970 he was awarded a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Economics from New York University. Dr. Renodin served as a partner in the accounting firm of Walquist, Renodin & Miller from 1954 until 1987. During this time, he served as management and financial consultant for various organizations including religious congregations, health care facilities and health systems. From 1969 until 1976, Dr. Renodin served as associate professor of management at Pace University Graduate School of Business.

Lyle never forgot his teachers, the Franciscan Sisters of Allegany, and their kindness to him and to his family. Through his work over the years, he has returned their generosity one hundred-fold. It was his vision, together with that of the Congregation’s leadership, which helped to establish a retirement fund for members of the Congregation that thrives to this day.

In 1991 the Franciscan Sisters made the decision to merge their St. Francis Hospital with Olean General Hospital. The sisters created a fund from the proceeds of the merger that was used to benefit the charitable ministries and works consistent with the Congregation. In 2000, this fund was renamed the Dr. Lyle F. Renodin Foundation in gratitude to their longtime friend. Over the years, the Foundation has awarded grants totaling over $1.4 million to organizations primarily in Cattaraugus and Allegany Counties in N.Y. and McKean Co. in PA. The Foundation strives to improve the quality of life of people who are experiencing poverty, homelessness, food insecurity, disabilities, vulnerability, and injustice.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, December 20 in the chapel of St. Elizabeth Motherhouse, 115 E Main Street, Allegany, New York.

Motherhouse/HomeCare & Hospice Update

A plan that’s been in the works for about a year and a half has come to fruition.

Melissa Sullivan, CEO of HomeCare & Hospice and Total Senior Care, has announced that Medicare has given the organization approval to move into a section of St. Elizabeth Motherhouse.

Beginning December 4, HomeCare & Hospice will start moving its administrative offices to the east portion of the second floor of the Motherhouse. The first full day of operations at the Motherhouse is expected to be December 26.

Motherhouse Administrator, Jaclyn Moore, is working closely with HomeCare & Hospice personnel to ensure that the move goes smoothly and will keep the Sisters apprised of all the details.

Melissa Sullivan will be in the Motherhouse at 1 p.m. December 1 to introduce herself and the program to the Sisters and to answer any questions that may arise.

North Carolina Associates Welcome New Members

Co-Directors and North Carolina Associates singing and praying the Blessing of St. Francis to the newly committed Associates.

The North Carolina Associates were thrilled to have Sr. Colleen Brady and Linda Dees, FSA Associate Co-Directors, visit and welcome 5 new Associates to our community at a Commitment ceremony on Oct. 21, 2023.

Our new members are Lyn Boulter, Gail Brant, Sharon Dodge, Teresa Gatton, and Dianne Fuquay.

While they were present the rest of the Associates renewed their commitment at the same ceremony.

This all occurred after an invigorating and meaningful retreat, presented by Sr. Colleen.

What a spirit filled day we all experienced!

The day before our Commitment and Renewal Ceremony, 14 of us partied at Ellen's home at a “Getting to Know You” gathering where we all got to meet one another, while sharing food, fun, and fantastic conversation.

A grand time was had by all. We can't wait to have our Co-Directors back again ASAP.

Shower for Mary in Allegany

Shower for Mary in Tampa

The Tampa Bay Associates and The Franciscan Center are moving right along with their plans for Mary’s Shower.

The Associates’ beautifully decorated box is predominantly displayed just inside the front door of the Franciscan Center.

Mary’s Shower even got a plug on the flyer for the Franciscan Center’s Blessing of the Creche on December 1. Some Tampa Bay Associates will be on hand for that event as well, receiving gifts, thanking the donors and sharing their Associate journey.

Linda Dees and Cheryl Maggio were among those who helped decorate the Mary's Shower donation box.

Feeding the Hungry

Dennis and Kayla, team members with the St. Anthony’s Hospital Foundation, recently served dinner to residents of Pinella’s Hope. Food and Nutrition Services cooks the meal and Mission Services organizes the monthly event.

Staff from Allegany Franciscan Ministries recently volunteered at FEAST food pantry in Palm Harbor, Florida. FEAST provides food and personal care items to Pinellas County families in need.
