The Richness of This Moment
By: Judith Terrameo, OSF
| |
|
In the quiet of this
early morning hour,
your presence, O God,
has made itself known.
In the quiet,
your Spirit hovers;
birthing a word,
illuminating itself in
the sensed peace of this time.
O, the richness of this moment!
Your word
is food for my soul,
nourishing my spirit,
filling me with our abundant
life and blessing.
O, the richness of this moment!
A moment of enlightenment,
a glimpse of paradise.
How I wish I could stay in this moment forever;
but your call is to move out into the world –
to birth the word that you have germinated within me.
Oh, the richness of this moment!

A New Day
By: Rose Bernhardt, OSF
| |
|
Oh what beauty
My eyes behold
On this new day
Of the season.
Diamonds and other gems
Dance joyfully
On the evergreen branches
As the early morning sun
Smiles softly upon the tall tree
Delighted with its welcomed
Overnight shower.
So the grace-filled soul
Shines and glimmers
Giving praise and glory
To our gracious God
Who is all good.
Gazing upon the soul’s
Inner beauty
God’s eyes gleam
With love and peace.

The Franciscan Center News
The Franciscan Center in Tampa got a new Bingo machine earlier this month, just in time for the first Summer Bingo with Friends on June 11. Ms. Norma, who along with Tim got the new machine ready, hosted 12 Bingo Games with Fr. Michael Reyes reviewing the cards and Marilyn giving out the prizes. Besides Bingo, participants enjoyed a lunch of Spanish bean soup, fresh Cuban bread with butter, fried plantains, chips, sandwiches and fruit. The next Summer Bingo with Friends is tomorrow, and it’s Taco Tuesday.

Also this month, Fr. Michael taught his first paining class at the Franciscan Center and passed on a few techniques and artistic tricks. The painting they did was titled “By the River” and depicts a view of the Hillsborough River near the Center.

Brian Lemoi and Fr. Michael Reyes, OFM, were among several hundred people who gathered at the Glazer Family Jewish Community Center in Tampa last week to honor Paul and Gail Whiting for their generosity and service to the faith communities of the Tampa Bay area.
The Whitings received the Maureen and Doug Cohn Builders Award in recognition of the impact that they have had in their work and financial support of the St. Leo University Catholic Jewish Studies Center and the Academy Prep schools in the Tampa Bay area. The Whitings have long supported the work of the Franciscan Center, The Franciscan Sisters of Allegany and in particular the ministry of their dear friend, Sr. Anne Dougherty, OSF.

St. Joseph's Children's Hospital, Tampa
|
Earlier this month, St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital in Tampa started using its new Swoop Portable MRI, the world’s first FDA-cleared, AI-powered, portable, ultra-low-field MR brain imaging system.
Since then, on-site training and live patient scanning has taken place in the Pediatric ICU.
The hospital is the first on the west coast of Florida to have this piece of equipment. With the portable MRI, the young patients can remain in a safe and comfortable setting, with family and caregivers by their side, which reduces the risk of adverse events due to transport. Designed to fit inside elevators and through doorways, the machine can maneuver through crowded health care environments to a patient’s bedside at multiple points of care.
