Why Church Camp? Why Camp Gravatt?
An article from the archives... The days, parents and kids have to make difficult choices about how they will spend their summers. The reality is that most people do not have the time or financial resources to do it all. There are a lot of options out there-basketball camp, football camp, cheer leading camp, computer camp, arts camp. And church camp, like Camp Gravatt. Camp Gravatt offers boys and girls from first through twelfth grade a Christian-centered, community-based summer camp experience, focused on demonstrating God's unconditional love to every camper. The Camp Gravatt program and activities vary by session, depending upon each age group, and include most of the traditional things associated with camp--archery, arts and crafts, canoeing, nature, time to play and swim in the lake, challenge course events, campfires, songs, skits, as well as time for worshiping and developing camp community. For all activities, the philosophy at Camp Gravatt is to provide a fun, rewarding experience for each camper. Camp Gra ![](https://ih.constantcontact.com/fs065/1101503930659/img/152.jpg?a=1109873094142) vatt staff members work to nurture and develop campers' self-esteem, rather than their competitive expertise in a particular sport or skill. The goals of the camp experience are for campers to grow spiritually, make friends, share in an affirming, Christian camp community, and have a lot of fun in a safe and healthy outdoor environment. As we make our rounds talking to families about why they should consider Camp Gravatt as a priority for their summer, the one thing that comes up over and over is this. It's not likely that your child will grow up to be a professional football or basketball player. And at age 50, it's unlikely they'll still be cheering at the game. But we know for many parents, it is your strong desire that years from now your children will be living a life of faith in Christ. Camp Gravatt is a place that helps build the foundation for that life. Certainly, it's not a replacement for regular worship, but it is a place that gives young people an under-standing and appreciation for the faith the church proclaims, a place where they can see what it means to live in Christian community, a place where they can feel the love of God in the warmth of new friends and counselors who care and nurture them. We can't wait for summer! And we sure hope your child will be a part of the community this summer at Camp Gravatt. Please contact us with questions or to register. |
Family Camp offered in May and August
Family Camp is designed to provide campers a taste of camp life, spending one night at camp with the comfort of Mom, Dad or another trusted grownup still at their side. Make it a mother/daughter or father/son affair or bring the whole family along! Campers (adults and children) will swim, do arts & crafts, have a campfire complete with roasted marshmallows, and participate in celebration of the Holy Eucharist. There will also be time for fishing, hiking, or just hanging out. Family Camp is open to campers of all ages from infant to senior citizen. |
Monthly Arts Academy in the Woods in 2012
Gravatt now offers a monthly art program designed to connect participants with the creative spirit give to us by the greatest Creator of all. Each month we focus on a different medium for expressing one's individual creative power. So far this year we've done mandalas, photography, and fairy houses.
Each month under the guidance of regional professional artists, opportunities for self expression such as acrylic, silk, and watercolor painting; paper, card, and jewelry making; food as art; journal making; collage; clay work; and creating a fantasy fairy village out of objects found in nature. Anything we do with creative passion can be considered art...come and spend some time with us in an atmosphere of renewal and reflection that will encourage drawing out your inner artist as you honor the most original Creator of all. Please check our website for more detailed information and to register for all our classes.
This series is open to adults (and sometimes families) one evening per month; childcare is available for an additional fee. Some classes are also appropriate for children and families.
