March 2019
Dear Children's Heart Foundation Families and Donors,

On behalf of The Children's Heart Foundation, thank you for your help in making Heart Month an impactful month for The Children's Heart Foundation. Throughout February, many successful events and fundraisers took place across the country, all helping to raise funds for our critical mission of funding the most promising congenital heart defect (CHD) research.

CHF was proud to have representation at the 2019 CHD Legislative Conference in Washington D.C., which took place March 4th and 5th, where we met with members of Congress about the need for research and data collection to improve understanding of congenital heart disease across all ages to improve care and save lives. Our CHF representatives had successful meetings and were glad to have a seat at the table.

We're looking forward to the start of our 2019 Congenital Heart Walk series, which begins in less than a month, and are excited to see you all as we walk for CHD research. Our vision is a world in which everyone born with a CHD has the chance to live a long, healthy life, and that eventually, CHDs will be eradicated altogether. With your help, we are making great progress toward that goal! Thank you for your continued support. Working together, we will fulfill our critical mission.

Congratulations to the Following Events for their Successes!
Graeme’s Run
The 4th annual Graeme’s Run, held February 9th in Katy, Texas, was the biggest ever, raising $93,000 for The Children’s Heart Foundation and Hayden’s House of Healing (all sponsor and registration proceeds benefited CHF)! Stephanie McDaniel, who leads Graeme’s Superheroes and organizes the event in memory of the son she and her husband lost to a CHD, shared,

“It was chilly day, but the community came out to show a tremendous amount of support. We had almost 1,500 people register for the event this year! There were some great activities for people of all ages, including bands, bounce houses, a trampoline, face painters, balloon animal artists, free food donated by local restaurants and businesses, and more. Because of all our participants, donors, and sponsors, we were able to raise a record amount of money. In fact, the $93,000 raised this year exceeded last year's record by about 50%! When we first had the idea of having this event, we never imagined being able to help raise this much money to fund valuable CHD research and support grieving families. We can't begin to thank everyone that volunteered, participated, or sponsored! It is truly amazing and humbling to see a community come together to support our family, our little angel, and all of the heart babies around the world. Graeme was a blessing to our family, and we are so proud that he is now such a blessing to so many heart families. We love getting his story out into the world. Thank you all again for not only making this event possible, but for making it such a resounding success.”
Hops for Hearts
On February 13th, the Hickory Room at Wolf's Ridge Brewing hosted generous and engaged Columbus-area supporters at our 2019 Ohio Hops for Hearts event. The evening allowed supporters to mix, mingle, and meet new heart families and advocates in support of CHF! Four researchers from OSU Davis H&LRI and Nationwide Children’s Hospital shared remarks on CHD progress and advancements being made in Columbus, and the strong partnerships between pediatric and adult CHD specialists there. The event raised $13,000 for CHD research thanks to our amazing supporters, committee members and volunteers!
Hearts at Play
The Illinois Chapter held their annual Hearts at Play event on February 16th and the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago. Hearts at Play is a very special event because it brings local heart families, neighbors, friends, sponsors, and medical professionals together for a night of fun, exploration, and lasting memories - all to raise awareness and funds for CHD research. This year, 500 supporters attended the event, including special guests Costumers with a Cause, Manny the Frenchi - our favorite Philathropup, and White Sox mascot South Paw, who all contributed to the excitement of the evening. With ticket sales, sponsorships, raffles and silent auction, the event raised over $50,000! The event continues to grow each year, thanks to the outstanding volunteers and committee who help organize this wonderful family benefit.
Gainesville Walk for CHF
The 2nd annual Gainesville Walk for The Children’s Heart Foundation, hosted by Gators for CHF, a student group at the University of Florida, raised $7,600 to support congenital heart defect research. Held February 23rd at Flavet Field on the university’s campus, the event united over 100 CHF supporters. Speakers included Courtney Catani – mom to a 1-year-old heart warrior, Dr. Jennifer Co Vu - Director, Fetal Cardiac Program at UF Health Congenital Heart Center, Kristen Vicknair – President of the CHF Georgia Chapter, and Martha Hauber – CHF’s National Board Chair. Thank you to everyone who supported this wonderful event!
