East Catholic High School's Newsletter
A Message from the President

To the East Catholic Family,

I hope you all are healthy and well with Autumn upon us. There is certainly a lot going on at East these days!

Fall sports regular seasons are winding down as some teams prepare for the post season. Our Boys & Girls Cross Country teams compete in the Class S State Championships this Saturday and our Girls Soccer team will receive their Class S State match-up soon after an impressive season. Come support your Eagles in some of their last games of the year – and dress warm!

Our Fall drama production of “Clue” had a dress rehearsal on Thursday and will have performances on Friday and Saturday, October 28th and 29th, at 7:00 PM on both days, with a Saturday matinee at 2:00PM as well. Please come out and support our talented Stage East cast and crew!

On Monday, October 31st, students will have the opportunity to dress up in costume for Halloween. No masks that cover the face will be allowed. Please be advised that appropriate and non-offensive costumes must be worn in line with the dress code in the Student Handbook. There is no cost to dress up on Monday, so we hope you all have fun embracing the spirit of Halloween!

On Friday, November 11th, we will have a half-day of school to honor and learn more about the veteran community for Veterans Day. Though this has typically been a day off for students & faculty in the past, we are taking the time this year to teach our students about the importance of this day. Please see below for more information, but we are looking forward to our program for the day and are grateful to all of those in our East community that have served in our armed forces.

As many of you have likely noticed, our Annex building is still standing. There were some delays due to permitting, but we are formally approved and will begin to bring down the building starting the week of November 7th. As mentioned in a previous newsletter, we will reach out to our community for anyone that may be interested with the preservation project to turn the bricks from the building into a Grotto by our Mary statue.

The end of first quarter is next week, and will wrap up on Wednesday, November 3rd. Make sure to stay on top of your work and talk to your teachers about any missing assignments. We want all of our students to start off this year well with a strong first quarter grade!

As always, please reach out if you have any questions or concerns, [email protected]

Peace,

Sean P. Brennan ’85 - President

East Catholic Celebrating Veterans Day on November 11th
To learn more about Veterans Day, this year East Catholic will have a half-day of school on November 11th and hear directly from some who have served. We will hear from three East Catholic alums who have served, and our keynote speaker will be Colonel Lesbia Nieves from the Connecticut Army National Guard. This part of the program will run from 8:00-9:15 am. Following the speakers, students, faculty, and staff will be doing service work on and off campus to support our local community and the residents and patients at the VA hospital in Rocky Hill. The day will wrap up by 11:30 am.

We are also hoping to recognize those in our extended East Catholic family who have served. To that end, we welcome alumni, parents, grandparents, siblings, etc. who have served to join us at East Catholic on November 11th for all or part of that morning’s program. Additionally, we are inviting alumni, currents families, and others to pass along the names of those in our extended East Catholic family who have served in one of our country’s military branches. Please send names and emails to me at [email protected].

We are asking all families to help provide us with the following items for our care packages:
-         K-Cups (regular black coffee *no decaf*)    -  Lollipops
-         Deck of cards                                              -  Gum

Collections will be from Monday, October 31st-Thursday, November 10th. Every student is expected to bring at least one item for our veterans! Donations can be dropped off in the main lobby.
