East Catholic High School's Newsletter

A Message from the President

Dear East Catholic Family,

Congrats to all of our students and teachers! Yesterday, we completed the first semester with the last day of mid-year exams. Students were off today, and the faculty had a scheduled Faculty/Staff Retreat. On Monday, the second semester begins.

The Faculty/Staff Retreat focused on our theme for the year, “Love Your Neighbor,” as we reflected on what that looks like in our different roles within the school community- teacher, advisor, coach, administrator, etc. It is always great to take a day with our talented faculty and staff to reflect on the good work being done at East Catholic.

Speaking of good work, I had the pleasure of attending the All-State Girls’ Soccer Banquet on Sunday and was proud to see Anya Tansil ’26 recognized as a Class L All-State player (see below). Also recognized was Coach Liz Palmer ’84 who coached the girls’ soccer team at East Catholic for 27 years. Liz was inducted into the Coaches Hall of Fame! It was a great afternoon.

Our winter sports teams are doing quite well as you can see below. Congrats to Urielle Abrokwa ’26 for reaching the 1,000-point threshold in her junior season. I hope many of you will come out to support our teams this winter!

Just a quick reminder about next week. We will have an Advisory Breakfast first thing on Friday morning, and we will end the day with our Winter Pep Rally.

As always, please be in touch with questions, comments, concerns, or celebrations!

Stay warm,

Sean P. Brennan ‘85

Chief Administrator

CGSCA All-State

On Sunday, the CT Girls’ Soccer Coaches Association recognized the All-State Teams at their banquet.

Anya Tansil ’26 was honored on the Class L team for her accomplishments last season. To be considered for selection, all leagues submit a Top 10 list from their All-Conference selections, coaches submit stat sheets for players to be considered, then the CGSCA votes on who will receive the honors. Congratulations, Anya! (And a big thank you to her parents- pictured here- for their continued support of this incredible student-athlete!)

CGSCA Hall of Fame

Congratulations to Liz Palmer '84 on her induction into the CT Girls’ Soccer Coaches Association Hall of Fame! The recognition took place during the All-State Banquet last weekend.

Liz coached at East Catholic from the Fall 1992 season through the Fall 2018 season. She joins her father and former head coach of EC girls' soccer, Ron Palmer (2015), in this Hall of Fame!

Cross-Town Rival Rematch

Round 2: East Catholic vs. Manchester takes place at HOME on Monday, January 27th. Last week's competition was electric as our Eagles broke the Redhawks' undefeated record. Please get to this game EARLY to get a seat in the bleachers. We will be closing the gym once capacity has been reached. You will be turned away if seats are sold out.

East Catholic is thriving as a school community. We continue to send our well-prepared graduates off to excellent colleges and universities, our athletic and arts programs continue to shine, and our community finds strength in each and every member. Our $7,000,000 budget for the coming year includes a $1,000,000 Annual Appeal goal, a threshold we were able to surpass last year. School Counseling

Class of 2026

Junior college planning and exploration season is upon us! This is a very exciting, important (and dare I say, fun?) time in a student’s high school journey.

On February 5th, all juniors will kick off college planning season with an in-school assembly where School Counselors will provide a brief overview of the college planning process and the opportunities and tools available to them.

The following week, February 11,12, and 13, every junior will participate in a new Junior College Planning Class during their study hall or after school if they do not have a study hall. This class will dive into the hows and whys of college exploration and introduce each student to tools they will need to create a post-high school plan tailored to their individual needs and aspirations.

Parents and students should keep an eye on their emails for further information.

2025-2026 Course Selection

Underclassmen should start thinking about courses for next year. More information will be coming about course selection, but it is not too early to start thinking about where you would like to see yourself next.
