A Message from the President

Dear East Catholic Family,

It has been a quiet week on campus with students and faculty on February Break. I hope everyone had a fun and restful break. We are back at school on Monday, February 24th. See you then!

Stage East has been rehearsing all week for Shrek, The Musical which opens on Friday, March 7th at 7:00. There are also two shows on Saturday, March 8th at 1:00 and 7:00. Should there be inclement weather, the snow date is Sunday, March 9th. Please come out and support Stage East!

We are excited to welcome Grandparents and Special Older Relatives to campus on Thursday, March 6th (see below). Guests will arrive for an 8:00 start and are invited to stay for the dress rehearsal of Shrek, the Musical. This is always a fun day, and we hope to host many of our grandparents!

Congratulations to Maya Fisher for breaking a school record in the 600m! What a great performance for her and many others at the Class S indoor track Championships! Kudos also to Girls’ and Boys’ Basketball and Ice Hockey teams for their playoff runs in CCC and CIAC tournaments. It is so good to see so many teams in post-season play. Keep it rolling!

Many thanks to all students, parents, faculty, staff, and School Board members who completed our Administrator Feedback survey. We are still analyzing the data and will provide a summary in the next News From the Hill. We appreciate the constructive comments and the positive reinforcement as well!

We will have a 1:00 dismissal on Monday, February 24th for teacher PLC, and Ash Wednesday Mass is on Wednesday, March 5th.

Please be in touch with questions, comments, concerns, or celebrations!

Peace,

Sean P. Brennan ‘85

Chief Administrator

Indoor Track Class S Championships!

The Indoor Track and Field Class S Championships took place on Saturday, February 15th and our indoor track team had a lot of good news to report! Not only did Maya Fisher finish 2nd, but she also broke the 20-year-old school record in the 600m, previously set by Megan Fish in 2005!

In addition to Maya’s 2nd place finish in the 600m, Kamora McGregor finished 3rd in the high jump, Riley Larkin finished 5th in the 1600m, and Braeden Knotts finished 3rd in the 3200m! The girls’ 4x400, which also includes Izzy Carpenter, placed 4th!

What a successful day at the Class S Championships!

Annual Appeal

East Catholic is thriving as a school community. We continue to send our well-prepared graduates off to excellent colleges and universities, our athletic and arts programs continue to shine, and our community finds strength in each and every member. Our $7,000,000 budget for the coming year includes a $1,000,000 Annual Appeal goal, a threshold we were able to surpass last year. I hope you will join your fellow Eagles in making a gift to our wonderful school!

Important Upcoming Dates:

March 12th - Juniors will be taking SATs here at East Catholic. Students are automatically registered through East.

March 19th - NACAC National College Fair will be in Hartford. We encourage students in any grade to attend the fair with over 300 colleges present!

Seniors

Seniors should be continuing to work on scholarships! Look on Naviance for a regularly updated list of scholarships. As you hear back from colleges it is very important you continue to update your Naviance account. Under your "Colleges I Am Applying To" tab, you need to update each college decision and once you have decided where to attend, you must set your attending school. Please also keep track of scholarships, merit awards and grants received. We will be asking for this information this spring.
