DESERVING FACULTY HONORED

There is nothing more satisfying than to see a colleague receive recognition for their dedication to their job. And there is nothing more fun than trying to guess the next worthy recipient of a teaching chair. On August 22, Dave Farace ‘87 named the awardees of two faculty chairs after describing their roles and their impact on the McDonogh community. Read more.

RETIREES REUNITE AND REMINISCE AT ROOTS

Nearly 30 retired employees returned to campus on September 16 for a tour of the Marlene and Stewart Greenebaum Middle School and lunch at Roots Farm. They were joined by current faculty and staff who were thrilled to reconnect with their former colleagues. Head of School Dave Farace ’87 gave an update on school life during lunch, which was prepared in the new brick oven by Farmer Sharon Hood and Chef Mallory Staley. See the photos.

DEDICATION DAY HONORS AND REMEMBERS

The entire school community and more than 35 guests gathered at Childs Memorial Terrace for the Dedication Day ceremony on October 14. The ceremony was an opportunity to honor those whose labor, philanthropy, dedication, and sacrifice helped to establish and enrich McDonogh School as well as to remember the 68 members of the McDonogh Family who passed away since last year’s event. COMMUNITY CELEBRATES SCHOLARSHIP

More than 300 students, mentors, donors, Living Legacy Society members, trustees, faculty, staff, and special guests gathered for the annual Scholarship Celebration on October 16 to recognize one of McDonogh’s most important traditions. Head of School Dave Farace ’87, a former scholarship student himself, spoke about the significance of McDonogh’s Scholarship Program and speakers Courtney Vaughn ’11 and Zach Hayashi ’23 reflected on the impact of a McDonogh education. Reimmerse yourself in campus life and reengage with students by becoming a substitute teacher or volunteer! If you are interested in any of the opportunities below, please complete this form and indicate your area of interest.

Volunteer with the Upper School

Volunteers will assist the Upper School by proctoring exams and assisting with regular functions within the learning support office.

Substitute Teach

The Lower, Middle, and Upper Schools are looking for retired faculty members—already familiar with the School’s culture and expectations—to provide substitute teaching support.

Volunteer with Greatest Good McDonogh

Greatest Good McDonogh teaches students best practices in service learning, philanthropy, community engagement, and social innovation through integrated coursework and experiential learning. Volunteers will help carry out initiatives of this program by working with students and non-profit organizations.

GET CONNECTED WITH MCDONOGH CONNECT

McDonogh Connect serves as a directory and networking platform that helps retirees connect with each other and McDonogh alumni. For instructions on how to get started or download the app, click here. There is also a dedicated group within the platform just for retirees. It’s a great place to share information and updates. To join, select “Groups” from the menu on the left and choose “Retirees”. THIS YEAR IN MCDONOGH VOICES

In conjunction with the School’s approaching 150th anniversary, McDonogh Voices will explore the alumni experience by decade. During each webinar, historical experts will provide global, national, and regional context while alumni panelists share their perspectives having been students at that time. HELP US CREATE A 150TH ANNIVERSARY OBJECTS EXHIBIT

There are many artifacts and anecdotes that, when combined, tell the rich story of McDonogh’s history. In anticipation of the School’s 150th anniversary, we will be collecting historical items from members of the McDonogh community and curating them for a celebratory exhibit that will open in fall of 2023. If you have an object to share, please complete this form. Submissions are due by Friday, December 9. Selected pieces will be collected in the spring.
