Parents and Guardians of 10, 11, and 12 Graders:  Let's Talk!
The PTSA Community Building Committee has started "Parent Circles" as a way to get to know other parents/guardians and for parents/guardians to get together and exchange ideas, experiences and concerns about the issues facing us and our kids such as: College, dating, driving, etc.   Discussion will be about issues in general (not individual students) and will be determined by the attendees (there is no pre-set agenda). This is a way for parents/guardians to share, vent and check-in with other parents of similar age students.
The 10/11/12 grade gathering will be on Friday, February 28, 2014 from 7:30 A.M. - 8:30 A.M. at ICS in the Lyceum room.
Parent moderators will be on hand to guide the discussion and coffee and treats will be served. Don't miss this opportunity!
Please contact one of us if you have any questions:
10th - Cameron Allison-Sadjo

11th - Jing Chang, Christine Trigg

12th - Maura Roberts

8th and 9th grade Parent Circle

Calling all 8th grade and 9th grade Parents and Guardians!
The Community Building Committee invites you to our first Parent Circle. The gathering will be on Friday, February 21, 2014, 7:30 -8:30 am at ICS in the Lyceum room. Meet other parents and guardians in a confidential setting to share and address parenting experiences, ideas, and concerns. Parent moderators will be on hand to guide the discussion.
Coffee and treats will be served. Don't miss this chance to meet some other 8th and 9th grade parents! Please RSVP Donna LeGrow if you can make it.

Taste of ICS - Thank you!

Thank you to everyone who helped cook, donated supplies, and volunteered for the Taste of ICS! We couldn't have done it without all of your help. Together we made $2237 for Landesa, a Seattle-based charity which works to secure land rights for those living in poverty around the world.
All leftover plates/items have been cleaned and are now in the PTSA room. Please pick them up as soon as you can!

2nd place in "Math is Cool" Regional Championship

ICS Running Club to Resume Feb. 24

We'll start again on Monday, Feb. 24, after an erratic schedule for much of the month on account of school holidays, weather, and travel.
New runners are always welcome.

Our schedule is as follows:
We run twice a week: Mondays, 2:20 - 3:15 pm, and Wednesdays, 12:20 - 1:15 pm.
We meet in the Lyceum (aka cafeteria/gym) at the times listed above and then head out to run in the neighborhoods around the school campus.
For new runners: Parents need to complete the waiver and field trip forms, for their children to be able to participate.
Please make sure your children have appropriate running shoes and clothing to help prevent injuries and for the rainy weather.
Enjoy the break. See you Monday, Feb. 24. Please contact Aaron Knopf with questions.

ICS Intramural Soccer
The weather is improving and it is time to think about playing soccer with your schoolmates. The ICS intramural soccer signup sheet is available at the ICS office and online.
Signups are now until March 5th. This year it is all games/no practices so lots of fun -  March 15th - May 10th. Only $15 sign up fee. All grades are welcome. Games are once a week, mostly Saturdays at LWHS.
Hope you can make it. Spread the word. Fill out form at school or email Laurie Fulton.

Please Retrieve Your Items from the PTSA Room
During this school year we have accumulated a number of plates/dishes/serving trays, etc. in the PTSA room from Taste of ICS, Staff Appreciation, Art Day and other school events. We do not have room to store these items long term. So please help us out by coming to ICS and picking up anything that belongs to you. We need everyone to claim their items from the PTSA room prior to March 31st, when they will be donated to charity. The PTSA room is located right around the corner from Dr. Livingston's office. Thanks for your help!
Volunteering

Chaperones Needed for Hiking Focus Week Group
Volunteers are needed to drive the students in the Hiking Focus Week Group to the hiking destinations each day for the week of May 19-23.  We do not yet know which hikes the group will select to do each day but should know in a few weeks. Your child does not have to be in this group in order for you to volunteer. It's a great way to get volunteer hours, exercise, and have fun all together. Please contact Julie Perrin.

Volunteering Alert
A recent check revealed that 153 Families have reported ZERO volunteer hours to the website!!! If you have been volunteering and have not had a chance to report your hours, please do so ASAP.
Thanks to the 52 Families who have met or exceeded their 30 hour commitment and reported their hours to the website.
The end of the year will be upon us in no time, and then it is very difficult to find opportunities to fill the 30 hour annual commitment. If you need help finding opportunities, please be sure to read the weekly newsletter - this is where the volunteer opportunities are advertised. You can also contact committee chairs directly if you would like to work with a particular committee. Their contact information can be found in the school directory or at this link.
If you still need help identifying opportunities or have questions, please contact our Volunteer Coordinators, Anne James and Kathy Thompson at volunteer@icsptsa.org.

Reporting Volunteer Hours
In order to record your volunteer hours, first log into the PTSA website using the log in form on the right side of the homepage, and then click on Input Volunteer Hours under the Volunteering menu item on the left side of the screen. Complete all of the required information and click on the 'Submit' button. If you've already entered volunteer hours in the past, your last entry will be pre-populated on the screen. Simply edit the 'Category', 'Hours', and 'Comments' (if necessary) and click on the 'Submit' button once. If you do not click on the 'Submit' button, your hours will not be recorded.
Note: Please don't forget to create an account on the website. Once you've registered and 'confirmed' your registration, please allow 24 hours for your account to be approved. You will need an active account to enable you to post your volunteer hours. If you have questions about reporting your hours on the website or have trouble with logging on, please contact Shafik Keshani.
