Yesterday, the Illinois House of Representatives approved a
minimum wage increase to $15 by 2025. IHLA has worked tirelessly in recent weeks to educate lawmakers on how this increase will impact our business, especially in areas of the state outside of the Chicagoland area. While the outcome wasn't what we had hoped for, I am at least grateful that we were able to successfully push back against a faster ramp-up period.
I'm also proud of how our hotels stepped up and spoke out on our industry's behalf. We generated a large amount of letters and calls to legislators stressing our position. Additionally, several of our members participated in press conferences, media interviews and even testified on behalf of IHLA in front of the House of Representatives this week.
From the beginning, we knew this would be an uphill battle. And trust me, it won't be the last. There are already multiple legislative proposals that have the potential to drastically impact our hotels' operations in Illinois. This is why it is so important for you to join us in Springfield for our
Lobby Day on March 12-13th. I thank you not only for what you've done already but for what you will offer the Association in our future advocacy battles.

GA Update
Besides engaging on minimum wage, the IHLA team has been active on many other issues in Springfield as well. Negotiations continue with the House and Senate sponsors of legislation to introduce
employee safety devices statewide. Much of what they aim to accomplish is already underway as part of AHLA and the major brands' 5-Star Promise. Other issues include changes to the
state's plumbing code,
paid parental leave,
human trafficking prevention,
adjustments to the state hotel tax reimbursement credit, and
new regulations around Airbnb. IHLA will host a
webinar later this month to educate our members about our efforts related to these and other issues pending in the Illinois General Assembly.
In Chicago, IHLA joined with other associations to launch the
Work Your Way Coalition last week. This new coalition aims to educate City Council, media and the general public about how detrimental it would be to implement the restrictive scheduling ordinance that is currently under consideration. We also
released a poll that proves that employees are overwhelmingly satisfied with their current work schedules and want to preserve the flexibility that our hotels and other businesses offer our workers. I encourage you to
learn more and get involved.
