We the People Volunteers Needed
More than 1,000 Indiana middle and high school students will testify in We the People simulated congressional hearings at regional competitions around the state throughout November. Help the Foundation by volunteering at a competition near you.
CCA Conference Registration Open
On October 4, the Coalition for Court Access is hosting a statewide civil legal aid conference in Indianapolis (5 CLE credits) intended for civil legal aid and pro bono lawyers and staff, law schools, members of the judiciary, and everyone who is part of the civil legal aid community in Indiana. Rep. Susan Brooks will speak at the opening breakfast plenary. Find more information and register here.
2019 Legendary Lawyer
The Fellows of the Indiana Bar Foundation will honor John W. Whiteleather, Jr. as this year's Legendary Lawyer for his public service, community involvement, and contributions to the legal profession in his more than 50 years as an Indiana attorney. 

A reception and award ceremony honoring John Whiteleather will be held September 26 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. in Fort Wayne. Please send your RSVP to [email protected]  by September 12.
U.S. Senate Youth Applications

Do you know a high school student interested in leadership, public service, and government? Encourage him or her to apply for the U.S. Senate Youth Program. Two Indiana delegates will each be awarded a $10,000 college scholarship and will spend a week in Washington, D.C. studying the federal government and its leaders. Apply by October 7.
We the People Chess Tournament
Cohen & Malad and Barnes & Thornburg are partnering to host a chess tournament fundraiser to benefit Indiana's We the People program on October 26. This tournament will pit plaintiff attorneys against defense attorneys, as well as some judges, in a head-to-head chess tournament. There will also be a youth division. 

The top-ranked finishers from both divisions will advance to a "simul" in which Chess Grandmaster Fidel Corrales Jimenez of Boston, Massachusetts, will simultaneously play all players in individual games.
