In October, NDIA’s Vital Signs 2023 report was released, painting a concerning picture of an American defense industry challenged by near-peer competitor threats. In this post-Cold War era, between the peace dividend and many years of focus on counterinsurgency, the U.S. has found itself challenged to maintain its leadership position in a renewed great power competition. To rebuild the United States's defense industrial base back to its former power, the federal government must prioritize making significant, sustained, and predictable financial investments while removing strangling policies, regulations, and authorities.
This report includes exclusive survey input from over 170 small, medium, and large member companies with NDIA, representing 35% of total defense spending in Fiscal Year 2022.
