Dear ,

The Water Company is - tomorrow, Monday - starting the works to install the major 500mm diameter water pipeline between Lower Kingswood and Burgh Heath.  The route of this pipeline may be seen on our website here.

There will be major disruption and, throughout the nineteen weeks of the works, you'll find weekly updates on the water company's site here.

As we mentioned before, there will be times during the work delays at the Kingswood Roundabout might provide temptation for some traffic to divert through some of our private roads.  Signs are being delivered to us from the County Council in the next day or two and these will be erected at the entrance to Sandy Lane and Woodland Way as and when needed according to the works.  Some will have noticed a couple of signs already in Woodland Way.  These are 'leftovers' from the Gas Main works of a few years ago, and supplement the new signs that will be erected.  These will be placed in Outwood Lane / Waterhouse Lane at Sandy Lane and Woodland Way - and will say 'No Access to A217 via Sandy Lane' and 'No access to A217 via Woodland Way'.

If things become very difficult, at certain times a manned barrier at The Warren might be required too. Please do get in touch with us if you feel that you could offer help here.

Outwood Lane

The road surface of Outwood Lane continues to deteriorate, with potholes of a depth that has damaged many a car wheel - let alone to those of bicycles and motorbikes and, of course, their riders.

Our County Councillor, Michael Gosling, continues to assure us that work to repair the road is on the list and should be started this year.  He points us to the papers of the Reigate and Banstead Local Committee of June this year - here - where we read on page 24 that Outwood Lane is programmed.

However, residents are rightly angry about the state of the road, and some have raised a petition asking for the County Council to take action.  If you would like to add your name to this petition to press the County Council further, then you can do so easily online here.

Banstead Leisure Centre - Swimming Pool

You will remember that the Council was minded to create a 'dry only' facility when replacing the Merland Rise centre.  All local residents associations objected, including the KRA, and as a result the Council agreed to look again. A paper has been now been presented to the Council's Executive with the recommendation that the new leisure centre now does indeed have a swimming pool, in fact two new pools - one a 25m x 6 lane pool, and the other a 13 x 7m teaching pool.

Clearly, additional funding has to be secured to ensure this outcome, and our ward councillors need our continued support as they lobby for this priority.  We have signalled our strong support to our ward councillors and will continue to work with them on this topic in the coming weeks.

Tattenham Corner Library

You may know that Surrey County Council plan either to close Tattenham Corner Library, or to hand the facility over to volunteers to run.

Please see a paper with details here.

In order to save the library around 40 volunteers need to be able to help.  A steering group has been set up and some local churches are willing to coordinate activities.

Many Kingswood residents use the library, and you may like to join this initiative. If so, then please read the document and get in touch with the steering committee.

The Queen's Diamond Jubilee

Queen's Diamond Jubilee

The Palace has now formally announced the diary for the long Jubilee Weekend next year, and we are able now to start planning in earnest for a range of events, including an exciting street party on Monday 4th June 2012.

This is now only eleven months away - and a committee is starting its work in the next few weeks.  Richard and Adrienne Lewis will be helping to coordinate activities and if you are interested in being involved, then please do let me know by reply to this email.  We need people who love to make things happen, and to make them happen well.  If that's you - then please don't hold back!

Further details on the plans now and as they develop may be found on the website here

Thank you
