News from the Library Director // Noticias del director de la biblioteca
Dear Community,

As we approach the year anniversary of the COVID-19 pandemic, I am reflecting on the many ways we have pivoted to serve the Redwood City community. We have some exciting things happening and soon to come! While our library locations remain closed, we are busy providing a wealth of services and events for kids, families, adults and teens. Read on to learn more.

Curbside Service Updates
It’s hard to believe it’s been eight months since we rolled out our Curbside Service. You can still use our booking system to schedule a pick-up appointment during our curbside hours at all locations. New this month, on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 1pm-2pm, you can walk up to the Downtown Library without an appointment. Through Curbside, we also offer Grab Bags bundles, seed packets, and at the Downtown Library WiFi hotspots and Veterans resource kits.

New! Computers by Appointment
Now that San Mateo County is in the red tier of the State’s blueprint for COVID-19, we are happy to announce the next step in our phased-reopening. Beginning March 15 we will launch Computers by Appointment at the Downtown Library. We will have a small number of computers available to be booked for 30 minute use, and printing will be available as well. We are excited to offer this service to those residents with limited or no connectivity. The computers will be stationed in our Community Room space with ample distance between them. We will follow strict COVID-19 safety guidelines to ensure a safe environment for customers and staff.

Student Library Cards
The Redwood City Library has partnered with the Redwood City School District to issue a library card to every student! Our library staff has been hard at work issuing cards and reminding current cardholders of the power of their library card. We are well on our way to finishing up 6,500 cards and will be moving on to work with other schools and districts in the City. If you have questions about your library card, email rclcirc@redwoodcity.org or call 650-780-7018, ext. 4.

The Future of Fair Oaks Branch Library
Last but not least, we have news on the future of the Fair Oaks Branch Library. On February 22, 2021, the Redwood City City Council approved the transfer of operational responsibility of the Fair Oaks Branch Library to San Mateo County Libraries. Beginning March 15, 2021 the library will be operated by San Mateo County Libraries and the City of Redwood City will continue to provide funding to support library services for the North Fair Oaks community. The library will become the thirteenth library in the family of San Mateo County Libraries and will be renamed the North Fair Oaks Library. Learn more here

Thank you for your support and I look forward to the day I can see your friendly faces in person.

Your Library Director,
Derek Wolfgram

Querida comunidad,

Derek Wolfgram
