Have a Great Day! WE Miss You!

PEOPLE WHO SEW!
When the library reopens, we'll need washable, fabric masks with pockets for our library staff. Could you help us out?
I have scraps of fabric appropriate for masks and pocket filters, but do not have the elastic. Email me HERE and let me know if you can make one mask, a few masks, or many masks. Thank you!

Don't worry about fines right now. ALL library materials' due dates have been extended to June 26th!

CURBSIDE LIBRARY SERVICE
I've been receiving questions about whether or not curbside library service is a possibility for the Ella Johnson Library District. The short answer is no, and here's why:
  • Most libraries that have started, or continue, with this service have an existing drive-up window or a covered portico at their front door. We are bound by two busy streets with street parking.
  • To protect our staff and our patrons, we would need to purchase personal protective equipment (PPE) for our library staff; this takes away vital equipment from our health care and essential workers.
  • Comparing curbside pickup for libraries and restaurants isn't the same thing. Libraries "circulate" our materials increasing everyone's risk of exposure to the Coronavirus.

I hope you all will be patient with us as we observe common sense practices to protect our staff and our patrons during this time.

Census Bureau Launches Survey on How Pandemic Affects Household Life
NPR reported that Americans may receive emails from the Census Bureau. Over the next three months, the bureau will launch an experiment called the "Household Pulse Survey" that measures how the pandemic affects household life.

You can complete the survey in 20 minutes answering questions about living under stay-at-home orders and social distancing requirements. The bureau hopes that answers help policymakers "figure out how best to get through the crisis and better understand its impact on employment, education, health, food, and housing security." Participation in the survey is voluntary and households could receive emails with a link to the survey as soon as this week.

Bureau officials said, "At the very least, this survey will provide non-anecdotal evidence about the effects of the pandemic on the population even if the quality is lower than would be traditionally acceptable." The results of this new survey will be published weekly on the bureau's website.
