In July 1986, Life magazine described Nevada's Highway 50 from Ely to Fernley as the "Loneliest Road in America." Life said there were no attractions or points of interest along the 287-mile stretch of road and recommended that drivers have "survival skills" to travel the route.

The Highway 50 Survival Guide is a challenge to travelers to learn for themselves about America's Loneliest Road. Take the trip across Nevada's heartland, stop in any five of the seven largest towns (Austin, Dayton, Eureka, Ely, Fallon, Fernley, and Baker) to get your Official Highway 50 Survival Guide validated and discover it for yourself.

The City of Fallon features their annual Christmas Tree Lighting on December 7, and Maine Street will once again be aglow. This Christmas tradition is a joyous event in Fallon when the community turns out for carolers, cookies and hot chocolate, the first glimpse of Santa and to watch the Christmas tree light up downtown Maine Street.

Feel the True Spirit of the Season at Austin's Live Nativity

Austin's Live Nativity remains a seasonal favorite each and every year. The festivities take place on Tuesday, December 11, from 6 pm to 8 pm. Always a popular community event, it features local volunteer actors, live animals, and beautiful singing. Afterward, attendees can enjoy cookies, hot chocolate, and a turkey giveaway raffle. Make sure to attend this very special event and get in the holiday spirit!
