Lovejoy Community,
On Thursday, Lovejoy ISD participated in a local Special Olympics track and field meet in Anna ISD. Lovejoy ISD was proud to have athletes from elementary, intermediate, middle, and high school participating. Special Olympics provides the opportunity for students with disabilities to build new skills and experience the joy of physical activity. Parents, siblings, peers, and teachers enthusiastically cheered for our athletes and celebrated their individual successes. Our athletes were an inspiration to each one of us that had the opportunity to attend. They showed spectators and supporters that Special Olympics is a place where we can be the best of who we are and where a more inclusive definition of human ability and potential can grow.
It was the highlight of my week to join parents, peers, and teachers in cheering on our athletes. I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to our teachers, teacher aides, and PALs (Peer and Assistance Leadership) students for providing the support that makes this opportunity possible. PALs are high school students who are trained to provide supportive guidance to younger students. Having such strong peer support made the experience that much more special for our athletes.
There is only ONE LOVEJOY and we are ALL LEOPARDS!
Lovejoy Proud,

HONORING OUR PAST
AS WE LOOK TO THE FUTURE

Did you know that Lovejoy School received its historical marker in September 1983?
The below image is from the September 22nd, 1983 issue of The Allen American. It is captioned as follows,
"Mrs. Donnie Watson Barksdale, who attended Lovejoy's 'Little Red Schoolhouse' from 1917-21, passes on some of the school's heritage to a member of the younger generation in attendance Friday at ceremonies dedicating the Lovejoy school district as an historical landmark."

|
Furthermore, on Sunday, May 1st it will be 64 years since Lovejoy ISD experienced a tornado that unroofed the Lovejoy school building and hail destroyed area crops.
Below is a brief article in the Whitewright Sun (Whitewright, Tex.), Vol. 73, No. 18, Ed. 1 Thursday, May 1, 1958, regarding the Lovejoy tornado damage.

Sloan Creek and Willow Springs
Orchestra Solo and Ensemble Contest
|
|
|
|
|
We are extremely proud to announce the results of the Orchestra Solo and Ensemble Contest that was held on Thursday, April 22.
For this contest, students had to play independently as a soloist, and some also chose to prepare a small ensemble (2-6 players), which takes an immense amount of practice and listening. All of our students stepped up to the challenge and did a fantastic job preparing their performances.
EVERY STUDENT who performed earned either a Superior or an Excellent rating, which earned each of them a medal! The judges said students were poised, confident, and well prepared to perform. This is a huge accomplishment!
19 performances from WSMS and 13 performances from SCIS earned an extra special award called the "Exemplary Musician" award. These performances impressed their judge in a BIG way! Our exemplary awards are as follows:
Please congratulate all of our orchestra students on a job well done!!
