Dear Lovejoy Families,
Happy Friday Leopards! We are enjoying the many successes of our students and have also enjoyed celebrations. I hope you will take time to view the video posted above for this good news.
On Wednesday, I communicated with you regarding a concerning adult that was present in the Lovejoy High School parking lot before school and who entered the foyer of the high school during arrival time. This person was immediately intercepted by high school staff. The Collin County Sheriff's Office, Lovejoy High School Administration, and our School Marshals responded quickly and effectively. We are proud of our students for reporting their concern. I can assure you that we have continued to work closely with the Sheriff's Office on the investigation and on actions to keep our students safe.
As parents and educators, incidents of this nature are unsettling and concerning. This incident is an unfortunate reminder of the importance of the appropriate use of social media. One of our Lovejoy Core Values is Best Today, Better Tomorrow. We live this by leveraging opportunities for learning and growth. October is National Cybersecurity Awareness Month which means we can magnify this learning opportunity for even greater impact. The following parent resource may be used as a tool for conversations with your children.
Below, I have listed some general social media reminders.
- Keep privacy settings high so that only friends can see posts.
- Be selective about who they accept as friends.
- Trust their instincts. If it doesn’t look or feel right, it probably isn’t.
- Tell an adult immediately if someone sends anything inappropriate, including an invitation to meet.
We remain united in our focus and commitment to student safety.
Wishing you and your family a wonderful weekend.
