Thank you to all our friends and community partners for your support during this time. Included in this newsletter are several ways you can explore Manchester's history while the Millyard Museum and Research Center are closed.

We also encourge you to regularly check our Facebook page for more updates and our YouTube channel for past MHA tours, programs, and a variety of other videos related to Manchester history.

We are looking forward to reopening in the coming months and are taking steps to do so in a way that best protects our visitors, volunteers, and staff. More information with specific details will be provided in the coming weeks.

Finally, we thank everyone who has continued to show their support to the MHA in the midst of this pandemic. We appreciate your support! MHA Elects New Trustees

Members of the Manchester Historic Association recently elected four individuals to serve four-year terms on the Board of Trustees. Thank you to all our members who voted by email or phone.

We welcome the following Trustees and thank them for their willingness to serve:

Bonnie Doherty

Bonnie is a lifelong resident of Manchester. She spent 39 years as a fourth-grade teacher in Manchester, the first year at Beech Street School and the subsequent 38 years at Hallsville School. She has previously served two terms on the board of the Manchester Historic Association, having served on the Education Committee and the Historic Preservation Awards Selection Committee. She currently volunteers at the Millyard Museum with fourth grade field trips.

Marylou Ashooh Lazos

Marylou is the owner of ML Art Services in Derry. She serves as a Museum Collections volunteer with the Manchester Historic Association and was responsible for cataloguing the MHA’s textile collection into a PastPerfect database. She previously served as Curator of Museum Collections with the MHA from 1998 to 2010, where her duties included collection acquisitions, care and research; exhibit development, design and installation; and contributing articles & essays to various in-house publications.

Gene Martin

Gene is a development officer at Plymouth State University. He has spent more than a decade in fundraising, communications, and organizational management. He previously managed local and state New Hampshire political campaigns/organizations and served as the top legislative and policy aide to the NH State Senate Minority Leader. Gene served as the chair of the Plymouth State Alumni Association Board of Directors and was a 2018 graduate of the Leadership New Hampshire program. He currently serves as the vice president of the Manchester Lions Club.

Walter Milne

Walt has been in the finance and investment field for most of his career and is currently the Deputy Tax Collector for the Town of Auburn, NH. He has worked for such companies as Bank of America, Citizens Bank and Charles Schwab. He is also a former state tax auditor and securities regulator. He has an MBA and is enrolled in the Masters of Taxation program at Northeastern University. He is currently involved in the Manchester Rotary Club and is on the boards of Camp Carpenter and The Massabesic Audubon and is a prior MHA board member.

Since temporarily closing in March, the MHA has been producing worksheets about Manchester history. It is our hope that, during these times when many parents are put into the role of teacher, these free resources can be used to teach children (and adults!) about the rich history of Manchester and her people.

Virtual Tour of the Millyard Museum

Did you know you can take a virtual tour of the Millyard Museum? Our mobile tour consists of 18 different stops in the museum's permanent Woven In Time exhibit. Each stop features original audio, historic imagery, and a written introduction about the exhibit. The stops expand on one aspect of the story, providing detail that visitors wouldn't otherwise learn about.

The tour is available at millyard.oncell.com for viewing and people can use their personal smartphones and tablets from anywhere to access the content.

MHA Collections Database

The Manchester Historic Association has been collecting objects, documents, and photographs related to Manchester's history for nearly 125 years. Many of these items, including the entire photograph collection, can be viewed from anywhere through our online catalog.

Click here to view the catalog, which is updated on a regular basis. You can look for something specific using the "Keyword Search" tab or click on the "Random Images" tab to browse the database.

Included in the online catalog is the Manchester Historic Association's postcard collection. You can search archive records for "postcard" to see over 1000 images of historic postcards of Manchester, including images of the Amoskeag Manufacturing Company, city buildings and churches, street views, Pine Island Park, Lake Massabesic, and much more.

28th Annual Historic Preservation Awards

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we had to postpone the 28th Annual Historic Preservation Awards, originally scheduled for May 12, 2020.

Instead, we are planning a virtual event to recognize this year's worthy recipients and will be announcing details in the coming weeks.
