Update from the Manchester Historic Association and Millyard Museum
Dear Friends and Supporters,

We hope this message finds you well. We miss you and look forward to welcoming you back to the Millyard Museum and Research Center as soon as possible.

As many of us are confined to our homes, we encourage you to explore the many virtual tours and educational materials that have been made available by museums throughout the country, including many local museums in New Hampshire that are our partners on the NH Heritage Museum Trail, including the New Hampshire Historical Society, Currier Museum of Art, and Strawbery Banke.

Here at the MHA, we are also working to make our collections and educational programs even more accessible. Please see below for ways you can interact with our museum and collections.

We look forward to resuming our normal hours of operation and will continue to follow the guidance and recommendations of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the NH Department of Health and Human Services (NH DHHS). The Millyard Museum and Research Center remain closed to the public through May 4. All events and programs during that time will be rescheduled. The Historic Preservation Awards, originally planned for May 12, will also be rescheduled.

Finally, we want to thank everyone who has continued to show their support to the MHA during these times. If you are able, please consider making a gift to our Heritage Fund . Your generosity enables the Association to continue to collect, preserve, and share Manchester's history as we prepare to reopen.

Please feel free to reach out to us if you have any questions and concerns. We thank you for your support and our thoughts continue to go out to everyone impacted by this pandemic.

Thank you,

Trustees and Staff

History at Home Worksheets
During this time of adjustments to our schedules and routines, many parents are put into the role of teacher. Although the museum is temporarily closed, the MHA is offering free resources for parents to share with their children to learn a little Manchester history.

We will be posting a new activity every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. You can access all worksheets on our website and through our Facebook page.

Below are links to several worksheets. Keep checking our website and Facebook page for new ones!

Virtual Tour of the Millyard Museum

Did you know you can take a virtual tour of the Millyard Museum? Our mobile tour consists of 18 different stops in the museum's permanent Woven In Time exhibit. Each stop features original audio, historic imagery, and a written introduction about the exhibit. The stops expand on one aspect of the story, providing detail that visitors wouldn't otherwise learn about.

The tour is available at millyard.oncell.com for viewing and people can use their personal smartphones and tablets from anywhere to access the content.

MHA Collections Database
The Manchester Historic Association has been collecting objects, documents, and photographs related to Manchester's history for nearly 125 years. Many of these items, including the entire photograph collection, can be viewed from anywhere through our online catalog.

Click here to view the catalog, which is updated on a regular basis. You can look for something specific using the "Keyword Search" tab or click on the "Random Images" tab to browse the database.

Included in the online catalog is the Manchester Historic Association's postcard collection. You can search archive records for "postcard" to see over 1000 images of historic postcards of Manchester, including images of the Amoskeag Manufacturing Company, city buildings and churches, street views, Pine Island Park, Lake Massabesic, and much more.
2020 Annual Meeting and Exhibit Opening:
Manchester's Urban Ponds: Past, Present, and Future
DATE TO BE RESCHEDULED

Millyard Museum
FREE Admission

Note: This year's Annual Meeting will be combined with the Manchester's Urban Ponds Exhibit Opening. We will be announcing a new date for this event in the coming weeks.

This year’s Annual Meeting will begin with the business meeting of the Manchester Historic Association and will be followed by the opening of a new exhibit about both the history and future of Manchester's ponds.

Although ponds may not be the first thing one thinks about in Manchester, the Queen City has several ponds that have played an important role in the area’s history. More recently, the Manchester Urban Ponds Restoration Program, established in 2000, has led cleanup efforts to help return the city’s ponds to their historic uses. This exhibit looks at the history of several of Manchester’s urban ponds, including Crystal Lake, Dorrs Pond, Maxwell Pond, Nutts Pond, Pine Island Pond, and Stevens Pond and celebrates the accomplishments of the Urban Ponds Restoration Program over the last 20 years.

Sponsored by City of Manchester, Department of Public Works, Environmental Protection Division

The Manchester Historic Association is an independent tax-exempt charitable 501(c)(3) educational nonprofit organization with the mission to collect, preserve and share the history of Manchester, New Hampshire USA. The Association operates the Millyard Museum and Research Center.
