Last year 34,759 people were treated in clinics operated by GLO Partners! Not to mention the 5,000+ health insurance cards, hundreds of reusable sanitary pads, and bars of soap given out. One of the beneficiaries was Fabrice.
At the beginning of June, Fabrice was robbed and beaten up on his way to work. He was seriously injured, with a broken leg. Half-conscious, he was rushed into hospital to receive emergency treatment. The problem was that he had no money to pay. As he recovered, his family paid off a little of the bill but couldn’t afford any more. A vicious cycle ensued because, in Burundi, it’s common for people to be imprisoned in a hospital until they pay the bill — all the while being charged for their stay. People can end up trapped for years with heavy debts hanging over them.
Thankfully, after hearing about his situation on a GLO social media post, some kind and generous supporters stepped in to pay the bill so Fabrice could be released. His wife said, “I Broke down in tears when we were told; I couldn’t help but dance, completely overwhelmed with joy!”
India
In India there are two official languages: Hindi and English. In rural areas English language is not taught in the schools; however, to do any higher education or read government documents, one has to know English.
The Anglican Church of West Bengal will open two adult literacy centers to teach English. For this program, women will be encouraged to undergo this training. We hope after a year training at least 15 women will be able to read and write English.
